Credit cards and the potential for high credit card bills - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I thought for some time about getting a credit card soon because I turned 21 last year, and therefore, I became eligible for one. If I do receive a credit card, then I'd be worried about any credit card bills getting too high. I think I'd have to pay the credit card bill every month or so.

I have a low-paying job in which we receive our paychecks every two weeks; my paycheck is around $20. Then I may not even have enough money to pay the credit card bills.

Anyone on this site purchase a certain item, like DVDs or something, which caused you to run up your credit card bill?

If you wanna get a credit card, I would suggest that you get just one. When I was your age, I used to have a lot of credit cards and I made a bad decision getting a bunch of them. I had several jobs and I wasn't able to keep them when I lived in Cleveland and I had to file for bankruptcy. So now I have just one credit card and I wish I didn't have one because I would rather use cash or money orders to pay for stuff I wanna buy. Amazon.com used to accept money orders but now they only accept checks, credit cards, Paypal. I buy a lot of movies and music cd's from Amazon and I'm disappointed that they changed their payment plan for the customers.

It's also so tempting to buy things you see online as an impulse buy and when the chit comes at the end of the month sometimes you wonder why you bought such and such an item. My advice is just to keep a bank account in the black and not to bother with credit cards(or set a very low limit which you can't exceed),whose companies charge extortionate rates of interest which can make the individual spiral out of control.

I was so dumb that I had up to 4 credit cards that I would blindly use for things online that at the end I had to file for bankruptcy of which I will be 4 years into it this year.

Currently I have just one credit card that is used only for emergencies (car repairs).

When I first got a credit card I used to pay off the balance every month. But then I started using it to buy stuff I wanted instead of stuff I could afford. I ended up getting to the point that I was only paying the minimum balance every month and the interest spiralled out of control. I ended up having my credit card cancelled and having to make a deal with the issuer to repay my debt. My advice is be careful!!!

Marvo301, you should always pay more than the monthly bill on a credit card so that way the card will get paid off quicker. That's what I do. I pay them $100 every month and they usually ask me to pay $78 or $89.

Yes, try to not spent more on a credit card than what you have in your checking account. Pay off your balances every month and live within your means. I have had 6-7 cards for about 8 years now and have never paid a dime in interest.

Now my student loans on the other hand...

Yeah it sucks to have student loans because that will keep you in debt forever and they want their money. I'm glad I've never had those. That's why I didn't wanna go to college.
