I am watching Wally's car, now why would Ward have to have the operator ringing the Cleaver's home phone?
He says, "operator, keep ringing it, I know there is someone there, it is my home". I guess they just did that for effect? I wonder if that was a real drive shaft from that year of car Eddie had, when he was telling them how to put it back together? |

Back in the day an operator had a lot to do like finding out if someone was really on the line when you got a busy signal. They could ring your phone and tell you what the charges would be like in Long Distant Call. A busy signal is something you don't hear much now.

yeah, l can remember getting the operator to see if the line was really busy, or if the phone was off the hook.
