Tristin Mays Joins "The Vampire Diaries" as the 'Real' Sarah Salvatore

No more fake outs, "The Vampire Diaries" has cast the role of Sarah Salvatore — for real this time.

Tristin Mays (The Wedding Ringer) will first appear in The CW drama as the (real) daughter of Zach Salvatore, Damon and Stefan’s distant nephew, on Jan. 22. The show had previously introduced a faux Sarah who was actually an old friend of Sarah’s.

Mays’ character is described as “a bright and gifted student of photography” whose life is turned upside down as she unravels the mystery of her true family history.

Less than two weeks after "The Vampire Diaries" announced that its upcoming eighth season will be its last, RSVPs from former cast members are starting to roll in.

And the first familiar face popping up in Season 8 will be… Tristin Mays as Sarah Salvatore, TVLine has confirmed.

But the question is: What business does Sarah have in Mystic Falls? When we last saw Stefan and Damon’s descendent towards the end of Season 6, she was advised to leave town — though not compelled to forget what she’d learned about vampires — by Enzo, with whom she formed an uneasy bond.

Could Sarah, quite possibly Damon’s only living relative, be the key to pulling him back from the darkness? Or will she spend her screen time with Matt Donovan, who will be “exploring his humanity” this season, according to comments Zach Roerig made at San Diego Comic-Con?

It should be noted that Mays recently joined CBS’ "MacGyver" reboot as a series regular, so all we really know is that her time on "The Vampire Diaries" will be limited.

At this point, it’s anyone’s guess what Sarah will be up to.
