Great Bolo

My great-uncle was supposedly one of several wrestlers who worked under that name with Crockett Promotions but I haven't found anyone who can verify it.

His name is Jay Martin from Lexington, NC. I've never met him and have no idea if he's still living. My cousin (his step-daughter) told me that he wrestled as Bolo but she doesn't talk about him much and will usually try to change the subject if anyone mentions his name. He was married to my great-aunt who passed away a a couple of months ago. If he's still alive, he'd be in his 90's.

You're right and I've known about them for years. From what I understand, it wasn't uncommon to have more than one wrestler under a mask working as Bolo or anyone else who wore one. It's entirely possible that he may have worked some shows and with the mask and right build probably not many would've noticed it was a different person. Whether or not he wrestled as Bolo I may never know but I would like to know more about him.

Some of the Indy Promoters back in the day tried to get away with diffrent guys under "masks" but the fans could normally tell..... kinda like how it is with "Doink" the clown... NUMEROUS guys have played doink over the years in many diffrent promotions..... and same with the "PATRIOT" there have been a couple of those also....

I'll do some investigating with a few of my older friends in the biz and see if we can come up with anything on Jay Martin from Lexington, NC.

Good point, a true diehard fan may notice but a mark might not. How many have played Doink? I know of Steve Keirn and Matt Borne. Didn't Steve Lombardi and/or Barry Horowitz work as Doink also?
