What is the longest time that you have lived without electricity?
No generators, no power what so ever!

For me it has been ten days without any power. It occured on June 29 2012 when a DERECHO STORM swepted through our area. 5 million people lost power over 11 States, due to this storm.

In our area we had many trees and power lines down. Many homes were damaged by falling trees and it was very wide spread. Our neighbors just across the street (for one block had power--9 homes), when everyone around them for blocks did not have power. The temperatures were in the lower 100's in the day and cooled off only to the upper 80's, lower 90's at night. We had several gas stations run out of gas in just a few days. Many others that couldn't open up due to "no power." Supermarkets (that were open) didn't take long for the shelves to go bare quickly! I remember Walmart bringing in many generators to get the store open, only to find out that they had to drive many miles away, just to get the gas to run them.

We had brought "dry ice" to put in our freezer and used sereval coolers with ice as our refrigerator. We cooked on a propane gas grill, including eggs for breakfast.
We learned quickly just how "dependant" we have become on electricity.....
So how long have you lived without electricity?

About 10 days for the same reason as you,probably the same storm. The thing I missed most was ice cubes.

I think just a day and 1/2- maybe 2 days? Earthquake in January of 1994!

Using a Generator Notwithstanding, Three Days after Hurricane Charlie hit Florida in 2004. (A neighbor drove to Atlanta, Georgia and procured six Generators, which he sold back to us at price plus $20.00 (To compensate for his Gas and Hotel Bills)).

We used the Generator for three days when electricity was restored. It got used again for five days when Hurricane Francis Struck, I haven't used it since. Usually I purchase 30 Gallons of Gasoline at the start of "Hurricane Season" (June 1 to November 30) in case we get slammed with another storm but I'll purchase the gas as soon as I get my Paycheck (I got Hired last week as a Janitor)

since the price of gas has come down a bit, might as well "Git It while the Gittin's Good."

About a day and 1/2. We don't have power outages here often as our power lines are underground. It's only when a transformer gets hit that we lose power. But we do have a generator which will run everything except the A. C. But I have fans all over the house so it's not too bad.

I had no power for approx. 2 weeks due to Hurricane Sandy.

I lasted 1 week w/o power and I was at a hotel during the 2nd.

Ours was off over a week when we had an ice storm, it was in Feb. or March of 1993. We had a wood stove for back-up heat and you could heat food & water on it. Our rural area was one of the last to get the electricity back on.

Four days following the tornado outbreak of March 2012. I watched as one of the tornadoes took out my neighbor's barn, flipped his 18-wheeler upside down, and then took out two large, metal utility pylons less than a half-mile from my house. My home sustained no damage, luckily.

We got our worst power outage back in January 1996, when we had no electricity for a few days. We had to drive over to Grandma's apartment in town to cook some food, as we only could get cold food back home. We used to have plenty of those power outages, especially in the months of December and January, before they put the cables under the ground.

WOW!! And being so cold in Sweden in January!! That must have been rough!

Luckily enough, those power outages never happened when it was really cold. Because on the contrary, they mostly happened when the snow started melting and became heavy enough to break off branches from trees (or even whole trees), so they would fall on the power lines. And yeah, it usually was windy as well. So I do hate the darkness and the boredom (you can't do anything) during a power outage, but I don't remember freezing.

Oh that's good that is wasn't freezing cold! With me it's the opposite. I remember power outages when I lived back east in the summer time. OMG so HOT and HUMID without a fan or AC, but they lasted maybe a couple hours only!

we had tornado came thur here in April 2014 Chattanooga .TN we had no power almost week and half we had to go to my grand mamas house to take baths
