TV Update: Netflix to Launch "Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later" in 2017

It’s Official: Wet Hot American Summer to Heat Up Netflix as a Limited Series
Jan 9, 2015
by Kaitlin Thomas

Netflix is getting the gang back together! The cast of the cult film Wet Hot American Summer is reuniting nearly 15 years after its release for a new limited series, reports the Hollywood Reporter.

Although there's little information about what will bring everyone back together, much of the original cast is expected to return for the eight-episode series, which was created by David Wain and Michael Showalter, who also wrote the original movie.

The film, a satirical comedy following a group of camp counselors trying to take care of unfinished business on the last day of camp, tanked at the box office, but achieved cult status after it was released on DVD.

It starred many, many people who are now very famous for other projects, including Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Paul Rudd, Molly Shannon, Christopher Meloni, Elizabeth Banks, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper and Amy Poehler, among others.

Wet Hot American Summer Teaser
by The Deadline Team
January 27, 2015

As the East Coast freezes and starts to dig out, Netflix figures it could use a little Wet Hot American Summer. The streaming service has unwrapped the first teaser for its upcoming series adapted from the 2001 summer-camp comedy.

It doesn’t reveal much — other than a 15-star ensemble of folks who were in the movie: Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler, Christopher Meloni, Elizabeth Banks, Michael Ian Black, Janeane Garofalo, et al.

And it’s all set to that 'Higher & Higher' song from the flick. The eight-episode limited series that takes us back to 1981 arrives in the summer.

Until then, have a look.

I always forget Bradley Cooper was in it, that's why he looks familiar when I watch his recent stuff.

Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later is Coming to Netflix
by Sadie Gennis
Apr 27, 2016

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Db9b1mQLcY0

Ever since 2001, Wet Hot American Summer fans have wondering whether the counselors at Camp Firewood really did make it their beeswax to meet up ten years later. Now, thanks to Netflix, we'll finally found out.

The streaming service announced that Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later will premiere in 2017. The eight-episode season is Netflix's follow-up to Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, which acted as a prequel to the cult classic.

Michael Showalter and David Wain will once again write the series, but no casting has been announced.

However, given that all of the movie's original stars - including Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler, Elizabeth Banks, Chris Meloni and Paul Rudd - managed to appear in First Day of Camp, we can't imagine Showalter and Wain would move forward with Ten Years Later unless they were confident they could reunite the cast.

Gotta say, after 4 episodes of the first season I stopped watching. Awful. Part of it was it's set years before the movie, yet, because all of the actors have aged in real life (obviously) they all looked ridiculous trying to play younger versions of themselves. Plus, I just didn't find it funny. I think they would have been better off making a film sequel, not prequel.
