Default 4.2 Earthquake yesterday

An earthquake hit my area yesterday while the Steelers /Ravens game was on. Just a 4.2. But windows rattled and things shook! SCARY!! Hope a bigger one isn't in the future. I have to get in the shower now and my hubby isn't home! OMG if an aftershock or new quake hits while I'm in the shower I will have a heart attack!!! I've been through 6.8 ones before so this wasn't really bad but still!!!

Thanks Penny! well I got my shower, that and nighttime when you are going to sleep are the scariest during a quake or aftershock. Or being in an elevator or in a high building. I'm in a little house that meets earthquake safety standards, it survived the bigger ones.

That's scary.

When I was in elementary and lived WA, we had drills in school from time to time. We would have to get underneath our desks. I can't remember if the point of that was knowing what to do in a earthquake or something like that.

Lol

we had an Earthquake here in Florida last year. The Epicenter was between Florida and Cuba. I didn't feel anything but I awoke to the sound of the windows rattling for about 40 seconds. There was an aftershock about a minute later which rattled the windows for about 15 seconds. An ornament in my mother's curio cabinet tipped over, I haven't picked it up so I can tell guesta that the quake tipped it lower.

Yeah that's it. I'm thinking we felt the second one. I wasn't sure of the time, but we were into the Ravens/Steelers game when it hit. Than came the report on TV and interrupted the game for about 10 minutes, giving updates, size, epicenter, basically saying, a bigger one might be on the way, look out for aftershocks, all that comforting stuff!

Mild Earthquake Startles North Texans
Author: Click2Houston.com Staff
Posted: 43 minutes ago Updated 11 minutes ago

Dallas - Four earthquakes that rumbled across North Texas on Tuesday were centered in nearly the same location in Irving, the United States Geological Survey confirms. Two of the quakes, one of them magnitude-2.9 and the other magnitude-2.7, occurred within seconds of each other at about 8:11 p.m. One was located along Loop 12 at State Highway 114 while the other was just south of State Highway 183 at the Trinity River.

Those followed a magnitude-3.6 earthquake at 6:52 p.m. and a magnitude-3.5 earthquake at 3:10 p.m., also both in Irving near the former site of Texas Stadium. NBC 5 viewers reported feeling each of the quakes across Dallas, Tarrant and Collin counties. The USGS listed the quakes as MMI V on the Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale, which indicates they had the strength to be felt by nearly everyone, wake those sleeping, break windows and dishes and to overturn unstable objects.

Tuesday's earthquakes were centered in an area where about 20 quakes have been recorded since October 2014. Prior to Tuesday, the largest magnitude quake to occur in the Irving area since October 2014 had been a 3.3-magnitude quake on Nov. 22. The most recent was a 2.4 MMI III at 8:29 p.m. New Year's Day. A researcher from Southern Methodist University and his team are studying the source of the Irving quakes and are trying to learn if they are induced or if they are simply the result of natural, believed to be dormant, fault lines in the area. As of this writing, no damage has been reported.
