Sad Donna Douglas 1933-2015

Link

PRIDE, LA (WAFB) -

Family members say Donna Douglas passed away this morning at the age of 81.

Douglas was an actress, best known for her role as Elly May Clampett, the only daughter of Jed Clampett, in the CBS television series The Beverly Hillbillies.

In 2011, Douglas sued toy manufacturer Mattel Inc., claiming the company used her name and likeness for a Barbie doll without authorization. The suit was settled.

She was born in 1933, in Pride, LA and lived in Zachary, LA.

Douglas attended St. Gerard High School, a Roman Catholic school, where she played softball and basketball. She was a member of the school's first graduating class.

She was a "Miss Baton Rouge" and was named "Miss New Orleans" in 1957.

Donna Douglas -- who famously portrayed Elly May Clampett on the legendary 60s TV series "The Beverly Hillbillies" -- passed away Thursday at her home in Louisiana with friends and family by her side.

Douglas' granddaughter confirmed the death to TMZ.

Donna starred on "The Beverly Hillbillies" for all nine seasons and even returned for the 1981 reunion TV movie.

Douglas also appeared in several other iconic TV series, including "Mister Ed," "The Twilight Zone," "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet," "Adam 12," and "Route 66."

She also co-starred with Elvis Presley in "Frankie and Johnny."

Douglas filed two famous lawsuits over the years. In the 1990s, she sued Disney claiming they stole the idea for "Sister Act" from her. In 2011, she sued Mattel for making a Barbie doll with her likeness without her permission. She lost the "Sister Act" case and settled the Barbie case.

Donna was 81.

Sad

This makes Max Baer Jr. the sole survivor of the Beverly Hillbillies cast. I always envied Ellie May's ability to get along with "critters" and I understand Donna had a similiar affinity with animals in real life. May she

Default Max Baer Jr. On Donna Douglas: ‘She Was Elly May Until The Day She Died’

Link

Max Baer Jr., who co-starred with Donna Douglas on The Beverly Hillbillies, tells RumorFix, “I loved her.”

Coming from the 77-year-old, that means a lot, because he says, “I’m such a bastard that if you’re a d**k when your living — you’re a dead d**k.” But he says that wasn’t the case with the 81-year-old actress, who died of pancreatic cancer Thursday at her home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

“She was Elly May until the day she died,” he tells us exclusively. “When I saw her for autograph signings or other gatherings, she always dressed the same with pink or blue” and of course those signature pigtails.

Max, who was the youngest star on the show, says, “I spoke to her on a semi-regular basis. We weren’t the kind of people who would text, but we would call each other when there was something to share.”

The Beverly Hillbillies star says the last time he saw the blonde beauty was in January 2013 for an autograph signing in Los Angeles. And, he didn’t know she was sick until she passed away.

Max says Donna had pancreatic cancer for the past four months, “but she was a very private person — nothing like me.” A friend told him Donna had a message for him: “Tell Maxie I thought I was going to get better.”

The actor, who still embraces Jethro, has fond memories of Donna and the show that made him famous: “Some of those shows — if you didn’t laugh, you had to be a pretty strange person. They were as much slapstick as Chaplin.”

With a sad tone in his voice, Max says, “I’m the last man standing. All the actors, producers — everybody on the show is gone.”

Very sad. I don't think of her as being that old, and now she has passed.

RIP, sweet country girl, Donna /Elly Mae

I was going to ask who was still alive from that show, but Max answered that question for me.

I guess I never realized that Donna was four years older than Max. I always enjoyed her performances as Elly May.
