I noticed while looking at the original broadcast dates, that the final three episodes of The Classic 39 aired in September of 1956. The fourth to last episode was broadcast in June of '56. I wonder why they waited so long to air the final three shows. Does anyone know why or if maybe the dates are wrong in episode lists? Because it looks as if it's spilling over into a second season.
Airdates were: "Alice and the Blonde" (6/2/56) "The Bensonhurst Bomber" (9/8/56) "Dial J for Janitor" (9/15/56) "A Man's Pride" (9/22/56) |

I always figured they held over 3 episodes to start the second season which, as we know, never happened. Had the show been on a second year then there would have been a head start on episodes for the season. I Love Lucy did this some seasons, too. So did The Dick Van Dyke Show.

Looks like most scripted shows were ending in mid to late May in 1956. Looks like
maybe they didn't want to waste 1st run episodes thru June. |
