They're both enjoyable to watch but some how the Munsters
are a lot more fun. |

The Munsters'. I think Herman and Grandpa are hilarious. And the way they go on about Marilyn being so different. Cracks me up!

To me, "The Munsters" were fun. The Addams Family was too macabe. I think of the two shows combined, Herman Munster is by far the most memorable, lovable character

The Munsters has always been one of my favorites.
To me, The Munsters could just as easily be the Stone family on "The Donna Reed Show" or the Andersons on "Father Knows Best." It's just that looked like famous movie monsters and didn't know it. That irony and the fact that the world usually reacted to their appearance as bizarre or sometimes scary, made this show endlessly funny! The Addams Family were weird intentionally. They knew it, too. The Munsters wanted to fit in with the rest of the world; the Addams didn't. Anyway you get the idea. The Addams Family was a Filmways Production, which gave it the "low-budget" handicap that all their shows seemed to suffer from, while the Munsters was made by Universal Studios, with good (for their time) special effects, plus most of the great movie monsters were born at Universal. |

The Munsters, of course. In my opinion, it certainly was a lot more funnier than the Adam's Family.

I wonder how the results would come out if you asked this question on the Addam's Family Board? Most likely on this board, you will get nearly all votes for the Munsters including mine.
Fred Gwynne played a perfect "Frankenstein's monster" better known as Herman Munster. He was over 150 years old, but acted like a big dumb kid. Al Lewis played a dynamite Count Dracula as the "Grandpa" and father of the Bride of Frankenstein, Lilly. How could you not like little spoiled Eddie, who looked like he was turning into a werewolf? And poor Marilyn, the ugly one of the family, whom they all worried if she would ever marry. They had an uncle, too, who was the Creature From the Black Lagoon. Except for Marilyn, the family looked like grusome characters from the Monster Movies of the 1940's. Their house was spooky looking, so this really gave visitors the impression that the house might be haunted. In the Addam's Family on the other hand, their house was neat and clean. Most of the characters in their family didn't look too gruesome except for Lerch, Uncle Fester and Grand Mama. Pugsy, Wednesday, Gomez, and Tricia looked fairly normal except for their clothing. "Thing" was special in the Addam's Family, and I thought "Cousin It" was funny, too (all hair and sunglasses.) Overall the stories in the Munsters were better and the humor was higher. I rate the Munsters a "10" and the Addam's Family a "7". |
