Why Was Voice Of Christmas the ONLY Christmas Episode of the series? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Why didn't they have a Christmas episode every season. It would have been nice seeing it done each season in different ways with different stories. The one in season 1 and the TV movie were awesome and memorable in their own ways.

Yes I wish there had been more Christmas episodes but I liked the one the first season and the movie was great too.

"The Voice of Christmas" is such a classic sitcom episode. I don't think they could've topped it. I'm fine with only one Christmas episode (like "The Andy Griffith Show"...and many more sitcoms), it makes it all the more special.

And I Love Lucy and Three's Company only had one Christmas episode as well.

My guess is that they were worried that holiday themed episodes wouldn't play well in syndication since they could air at anytime of year.

Another benefit of just having 1 Christmas episode was that it could be rerun at Christmastime in future seasons, although from my research I found that ABC only reran it in a future season once, on Christmas Day 1970. The Dick Van Dyke Show made 1 Christmas episode during its 3rd season, but CBS reran it around Christmas in both Seasons 4 & 5, but never during the summer. ABC reran "The Voice of Christmas" on Aug. 14, 1970 as well, maybe to help people cool off during the hot summer.

"Home Improvement" was actually the first show I saw in first run that had a Christmas episode every season. And each one was special in it's own way.

I know!! I loved that Santa! And he got all concerned about what Cindy told him and he talked to Mr. Brady and said he doesn't want to let a little girl with big blue eyes down, so he would see what he could do about getting her Mother's voice back! (or something like that)!

Actually, "The Bob Newhart Show" from the '70s had a Christmas episode every season - I think that may have been the first to do so.

I would have liked to have seen additional Christmas episodes of "Brady Bunch", "Partridge Family", "Family Affair", etc. "My Three Sons" never had a Christmas episode in 12 years (shame); although I think there were Halloween and Thanksgiving episodes during its first couple of years.

then it came back on Xmas eve, so she was convinced that Santa did it.
