Default I Got A Question About Soul Train And American Bandstand TV Shows

What studios in Los Angeles were Soul Train and American Bandstand at? I loved these shows in the 80's when I was a kid. RIP Don Corneileus and Dick Clark. Did ya'll know that Don was mad at Dick back in the day because he thought that Dick tried to do a show similar to Soul Train? When I saw Soul Train documentary, I see what Don was talking about because I saw footage of the tv show Dick tried to do that was similar to Soul Train and it didn't last that long. I'm not talking about American Bandstand. I'm talking about another tv show that Dick did that was similar to Soul Train.

Not sure of the studios, but I am pretty sure Soul Train started out in Chicago. Maybe it ended up being filmed in LA? I'm not sure. And American bandstand started out in Philadelphia and moved to LA. Yes it was a shame about Don Cornelius. Suicide, very sad. And Dick Clark lived a long life, sad when he had his stroke.

Yeah I know that Soul Train moved to Los Angeles and I didn't know American Bandstand started in Philadelphia. I wonder if Don Corneileus was suffering from a sickness because that's the only reason I can think of as to why he would kill himself. I had heard that he was sick but I was surprised he killed himself. Maybe he was tired of suffering and decided suicide was the way to end his pain. So sad. I'm gonna miss Dick Clark doing his New Year's Rockin Eve tv show. I'm so used to seeing him host that and now Ryan Seacrest has taken his place.

Shocked to hear that Don Cornelius committed suicide. Didnt seem like he had a problem during the Soul Train documentary. I will say that when Dick Clark had his stroke, he never really recovered. Very sad because not only did he have Bandstand and New Year's Rockin Eve but dont forget the 25, 000 Pyramid.

When did American Bandstand go off the air? Wasn't it at the end of the 80's or early 90's?

Thanks. What year did American Bandstand start? I didn't watch it until the early 80's. Do you know which tv studio the show was filmed in Los Angeles? Do you know which tv studio Soul Train was filmed in Los Angeles?

I don't know exactly what studio Soul Train was in when in L.A., but I do know that American Bandstand w/Dick Clark was done from ABC Prospect (a.k.a. ABC Television Center in Hollywood).

And also, I believe that ABC's version of AB started in '57 from WFIL (now WPVI) in Philadelphia, before moving in '64 to ABC Prospect, IIRC.

I would watch Soul Train as a teenager for the sometimes hot women dancing in the spotlight segment.

I watch Soul Train episodes sometimes on Youtube. I like the theme song that r&b singer O'Bryan did for the show in the early 80's called Soul Train's A Coming. I think he had the best theme song for the show. I stopped watching the show after the 80's and I don't know why after the 90's when Don left that the show decided to have different black celebrities hosting.

American Bandstand was Videotaped in Philadelphia, but when the show moved to L.A. it was Videotaped @ 3 different studios

From 1964-1987, it was Videotaped @ the ABC Television Center in HOLLYWOOD which was also the home to shows like SOAP, Benson, General Hospital, and Family Feud w/the late Richard Dawson and when Mr. Clark pulled AB off of abc due to the network executives wanting to cut the show from a full hour to a half an hour, the show moved to syndication and later on cable on USA Network

The syndicated version was Taped @ the KCET Studios in Los Angeles

KCET is the longtime affiliate of Public Television's PBS which was the home to The Puzzle Place and the Co-Producers of Wonderworks

When the show aired on USA Network in 1989, not only did Mr. Clark hire David Hirsch to host the show, but Mr. Clark and his staff @ Dick Clark Productions moved the show to Universal Studios in HOLLYWOOD which was the home to The Final Season of THE NEW Hollywood Squares w/John Davidson, the 1st 2 seasons of The Original American Gladiators, Maximum Drive, The syndicated version of Crook & Chase and the home to Puttin' on the Hits Co-Produced by Mr. Clark and Gong Show Creator the late Chris Bearde who also Co-Produced The ALL New Truth or Consequences and FTV

as for Soul Train, when the show aired on syndication, it was videotaped @ the following studios:

Metromedia Square in Hollywood for the 1st 10 seasons (1971–1981)

Charlie Chaplin Studios in Hollywood for 4 seasons (1981–1985)

Hollywood Center Studios in Hollywood for 8 seasons (1985–1993)

and when Don Cornelius stepped down as host of Soul Train, the series was Videotaped @ the Paramount Studios in Hollywood for the last 13 seasons (1993–2006) and not only that, but the series got a new look, a new set and a whole new attitude
