ABC’s "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." has enlisted TV vet Blair Underwood to play a key figure from Melinda “The Cavalry” May’s super-shadowy past.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Underwood will recur during Season 2 as May’s estranged ex-husband, Dr. Andrew Garner, whom we first will meet in March.

Blair Underwood Returns for "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 3

Looks like The Cavalry will have company in season three of "Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.". Variety has learned that Blair Underwood will return to the ABC series to reprise his role as Melinda May’s (Ming-Na Wen) ex-husband Andrew in multiple episodes when the show returns this fall.

In true Marvel fashion, Underwood’s storyline and the status of his relationship with Agent May is being kept under wraps.

When we last saw Andrew in the season two finale, he and May had reconciled and were preparing to take a long-overdue vacation — but things rarely stay quiet in the Marvel universe, especially given that the finale ended with May’s teammate, Agent Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge), being swallowed up by the mysterious Kree Monolith, unbeknownst to her friends.
