Forget Nick at Nite and TV Land! To heck with programming for 18-34-year-olds! It's time for a classic TV sitcom network. One that presents black and white classics OLNLY! Nothing beyond 1964. My Little Margie, Our Miss Brooks. Out-of-the-way classics from the Museum of Radio and Television, like I Remember Mama. It would have to be pay TV because sponsors wouldn't hear of this! And if the classics were never filmed, then re-enact them using the original scripts and present-day actors. Let's have contests; first prize: an original Dumont television set! If only I had the resourses, I'd launch it. (Hey! How about a test pattern from 3 to 4 each morning?!)

As much as I love that idea, I don't think it is possible even in this day and time even as a pay channel. I don't think enough people would want to buy it and cable channels probably wouldn't want to offer it. Maybe after digitial cable provides everyone with 500+ channels, we may see that happen.

I can think of some networks that actually exist that are probably worse.
I don't see the huge need for: Style- the fashion model channel ESPN News (how many times do we have to see the same thing over and over again?) NASA Channel Golf Channel All of which appeal to a rather small market I would think. |

As much as I love TV. In my head and on my previous computers I've been making spreadsheets of my TV Network called NP (Nathan's Planet). It would show the awesome shows that I like. I had shows like Maude, Law & Order, The Facts of Life,

Other than I Love Lucy and Leave it to Beaver I doubt we'll see the return of very many 50's sitcoms/shows anytime soon unless they are released on home video or maybe shown on low powered networks like AIN, however in most cases AIN is used only when a tv station goes into "transition" ( Like DC's channel 14 for a brief time was part AIN then suddenly they became a spanish channel ) and it needs to be said they often dont follow their own listings.
Demographics is another reason too. In fact the 50's in general is quickly becoming taboo. For example many oldies radio stations have already stopped playing the 50s and started playing the 70s and even 80s. Still find it strange to hear Hall & Oates's "Maneater" and Bertie Higgins doing "Key Largo" on the local Oldies 95 here . |
