Red face TBS' editing

last week I watched the episode on Roseanne where David moves in with the Conners. and when Roseanne goes to David's house she agrues with David's mother. and they edited out some the comments they made and added other comments the words did not even match their mouths. Did ABC edit these comments out to. And What did they origannly say. Before the editing.
P.S. I just have to say Nick at Nite really sucks the edit out to much stuff. If they edit that much out of the Facts of Life imagine what they will do to Roseanne. Good thing for me Roseanne is on the WB in sydication in Seattle.

I remember the scene though its been awhile since I have seen it but if I can remember correctly David's mother called Roseanne's 2 daughters Becky & Darlene "whores" where in turn Roseanne said something like "..now I'm in it now". David's mom also called David a "bastard" ( what a mom !!!! ). When I caught that Roseanne episode on WTTG FOX 5 out of DC a few years back those words were left intact.

TBS is famous for its editing, like subbing dirty words for words of their own even if it doesnt make sense. Though this is the first time I heard them doing it on a tv show but it does not surprise me.

Once I caught on TBS one of those Smokey & The Bandit films, in the theatres Jackie Gleason often is heard to say "s.o.b. " but on TBS it is turned in to "son of a brick". In another movie TBS replaced the use of the "f" word with the word "ajax". Sometimes even dramas are turned into comedies when they air on TBS thanks to their rather strange editing.

Sad TBS Editing

I know what you mean about the editing!!! It makes me sick.

When I saw the original ABC episode Rear Window where Roseanne flashes the old people I could swear that they showed her breasts on camera but on TBS they don't show them at all. And although a little bit volguer I have to say it was one of the funniest episodes.

They shouldn't haved edited that episode of Roseanne. It was important to show just how hideous and horrible David's mom was and the way she treated them!!!

Lightbulb TBS' editing

They also edit the episode in which Jackie is moving out of Fisher's house. She's stalling, citing a lack of boxes as the reason. Roseanne says, "We can get more boxes. I will whore myself in every grocery store in this town if that's what it takes, okay?!" TBS also edits this out.

I noticed somewhere that WOR out of New York was broadcasting Roseanne as well. I don't believe I get that here. Has anyone seen the show on WOR, and does it appear that the episodes are in tact?

TBS is owned by Ted Turner (hence Turner Broadcast Station) and he is an uptight southerner and he has everything cleaned up.

The word "whore" is edited out of the Halloween episode where Darlene, David, and a pretty girl play a prank. Darlene is ripping off the girl's head, yelling, "You slut, you whore. It is replaced with slut, to show it twice.

It's stupid because TBS once allowed them to say "whore" on Roseanne, and then they took it off. There seemed to be an abrupt shift with TBS, where certain parts that were once allowed in shows and movies where all of a sudden taken out. Suprisingly, at the same time this happened, things that were once censored were brought back, most noticably from movies.

The movie, Dumb and Dumber suddenly had more things cut out, and then certain parts were added that had never been shown before. One new line I was shocked to see shown was when Harry in the movie talked about how his dog breeding place successfully mated a schitzu and a bull dog. He said "We called it a bullsh**." Why would TBS suddenly allow that and not the word "whore?"

That's a lot better than here. About all US stations have gone crazy with chopping up shows and movies. And acutally, I would love it if a station here would just show seasons 1-5, since those are really the only ones I watch. Pretty soon TBS will be showing 6 and on, which I still tune into, I just don't care for as much. Our local Fox station (seattle) does do a beter job with limiting the editing. That episode where David moves in was just on a couple weeks ago, and it was the first time in years I had caught that part where the word "whore" was actually allowed.

I also understand why perhaps TBS has gotten a tighter grip (in some ways) on certain words. My confusion is to why they suddenly cut certain things and introducing others. My post above about TBS airing "Dumb and Dumber" and recently allowing bullsh** totally shocked me. Even the way bullsh** is used in the movie doesn't take away from the fact it's a swear word.

And don't even get me started on all tv stations and how they allow more commercial time at the price of cutting minutes from the shows. I totally agree with you and that one Adam. I can understand the censores cutting certain words, but cutting regaular dialogue pis**s me offfffff.

Default NEW NETWORK

I bet that if everyone who has a problem with syndication got together, and donated 100 bucks each, we could have enough to start our own network. Here are a few things that would be appealing to me:

Commercial free airing(with commercials at the end)
No split screens
No corner bugs
Episodes airing in order, possibly in a marathon
No voice overs
UNEDITED episodes
UNAIRED PILOTS being shown
UNAIRED episodes being shown
Rare series being shown

Think of how popular that would be! It would be in every household in the U.S. even if they had to buy it.

What do you all think?

Default Yeah

They are SOMETIMES shown in my syndication(not TBS) but I never tape it from there because the network cuts out the final scene, which is usually the most funny.

I just saw the episode on TBS where Roseanne says "I will whore myself in every grocery store in Lanford if that's what it takes," but they nixed the entire line. The last time the episode aired on TBS, they left the line in. Very inconsistant.

And when they edited it out, it was very obvious. The shot turned from Roseanne to Jackie, there was a silence of a few seconds, and then Jackie delievered her line. Come on TBS! You're getting rid of the best stuff!

I wonder why they never edit out the lesbian kiss. I'm sure N@N will once Roseanne starts to air.
