Most shows with huge viewership like American Idol use to have, would give huge gains to shows the were on before it or after it. American Idol never seems to do that. Why do you think that is? I mean shows like Cheers helped bring an audience to Seinfeld. But AI never did this.

I don't think this is true. AI started me watching "House" when it came on after AI.

Maybe House well after AI. But considering the ratings AI got to what House got is pretty low. Yes house was a hit, but shows like Cheers gave Seinfeld really huge ratings.
