Okay, I admit that I did not scour the archives so this may have been addressed in the past. If it has then I apologize for the repetition.

But, as I was watching the anniversary presentation last night I began thinking (trust me, that can be a dangerous thing

).

Now keep in mind that back in the 70s, open references to homosexuality was not normal conversation. This show was groundbreaking in that area; quite a risque concept. Even "living together" (male/female) was considered a bit naughty.

The premise of this show is based upon the acceptance by the landlord that Jack is gay, and therefore it is okay for him to live with two women.

It seems odd to me now that no one seemed to have any problem with two/three females living together. I guess back in the 70s the concept of lesbianism was so "abhorent to society" that they didn't even recognize its existance.

Hmm... what a difference 25 years make!

What always seemed funny to me was that the landlords were SO prudish as to not allow any hanky panky between unmarried men and women in the building, yet, when Stanley or Ralph mistakenly thought Jack and his buddy, Larry were fooling around together, the reaction was usually only a snicker or a surprised look ---and nothing else.

3's Company was a GREAT show, though!

Maybe Mr. Roper had no problem with two men together because he had secret desires of his own. It was made crystal clear he had no interest in fooling around with the opposite sex aka Mrs. Roper.
Mr. Furley at least strived to be a ladie's man.
Not so sure I think this is true--the show didn't get that deep or into subliminal messages.....or did it?
Just tossing it out, LOL.
