TV "The Queen Latifah Show" Canceled

"The Queen Latifah Show" has been Canceled — Real Her Emotional Letter
Nov 21, 2014
by Kate Stanhope

"The Queen Latifah Show" has been canceled after two seasons, TVGuide.com has confirmed.

The daytime talk show hosted by Latifah (real name Dana Owens) will air new episodes through March before going off the air for good.

"We want to thank Dana, the producers and the entire staff of The Queen Latifah Show for creating a program that we are all very proud of," Sony Television Pictures, which distributed the show, said in a statement.

"Thank you also to our terrific station partners and advertisers who supported the show."

The rapper and Oscar-nominated actress, 44, confirmed the news in a lengthy letter to herself and her crew posted on her Facebook page.

"Thank you for your strong work ethic and great effort in getting The Queen Latifah Show off the ground and running. Your dedication and sacrifice was crucial to the entire team, and in the face of intense challenges, you displayed 'true grit'!" she wrote.

"Your family, partners, staff and crew showed up with you every step of the way. Be very proud of that! Not everyone can say the same. You can also say you have been a blessing to and been blessed by amazing guests and incredible audiences for this show. We truly changed people's lives for the better."

"Stay positive, stay strong and most importantly, stay open... There is so much more God has in store," Latifah continued. "P.S. This letter is for me, my staff, my crew, and everyone who was by my side for this incredible journey. The most important thing in life is that you wake up every single day and take chances. No matter what the outcome ... believe in yourself and continue to fly."

This marked Latifah's second stab at daytime TV.

Her first self-titled talk show debuted in syndication in 1999 and ran through August 2001.

I like Queen Latifah, but honestly, she doesn't seem comfortable as a host. She's a great rapper, a great actress, but just being herself seems awkward for her.

Queen Latifah Opens Up on Talk Show's Cancellation
12/8/14
by Chris Gardner

Queen Latifah is in shock. But it's probably not for the reasons you may think.

Two weeks after news broke that her syndicated daytime show, "The Queen Latifah Show", from Sony Pictures Television had been canceled, the 44-year-old entertainer told The Hollywood Reporter that there's something she finds more surprising than the end of her show's run after two seasons.

"As I look back on it, I’m in shock at how many people have come on the show, supported the show and all the great things. I’ve been able to spend other people’s money to change people’s lives, which is the best thing to be able to do," Latifah told THR.

"I feel really honored. And I appreciate everyone who tuned in to watch it and support it."

It's not over yet. Latifah added that while they'll wrap production by year's end, new shows will air through March.

THR caught up with Latifah on Dec. 5 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel where she was teamed with E! star Jason Kennedy to host Generosity.org's Night of Generosity Gala — the sixth annual event to raise funds and awareness to end the clean water crisis in developing countries. More than $550,000 was raised with pledges to create 85 new wells.

Also in attendance were Megan Fox, Brian Austin Green, Ryan Rottman, Ashley Benson and Mike Posner.

While doing good, Latifah said she was "feeling good."

As for what the future holds? "I'm going to take a little time and focus on Dana," Latifah said, referring to her real name, Dana Elaine Owens. "Focus on D-love for a minute and then I'll come back out swinging. That's how I do.... You know me; I've been here for a while and I'm going to keep going."

She's got one post-"Latifah Show" project in the can:

In 2015, she'll star as legendary blues singer Bessie Smith in HBO's Bessie.

"""" I’ve been able to spend other people’s money to change people’s lives """"

That sounds odd to me....
