Raiders snap 16-game skid with 24-20 win vs. KC

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) After 368 days and 16 straight losses, the Oakland Raiders finally had something to celebrate.

Rookie Derek Carr threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to James Jones with 1:42 remaining, and the Raiders got one last defensive stop to snap a 16-game losing streak with a 24-20 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night.

''Hopefully there's many more to come because I like this feeling better than the other one, that's for sure,'' Carr said.

Oakland's Latavius Murray ran for two touchdowns and 112 yards on just four carries before leaving the game with a concussion. The Raiders (1-10) built a 14-point lead, but needed a 17-play, 80-yard drive led by Carr to secure its first win since beating Houston on Nov. 17, 2013.

''We learned something today,'' interim coach Tony Sparano said. ''We learned something about ourselves. We've been in this end of the pool a long time. I kept saying that eventually it's going to happen. Today they just refused to give up.''

The Raiders became just the third team since the merger to beat a first-place team for their first win after losing at least 10 games to start the season. Indianapolis did it against Green Bay in 1997 and Buffalo did it to Dallas in 1984.

Alex Smith threw two TD passes for the Chiefs (7-4), who had won five in a row. They fell a half-game behind Denver in the AFC West. The Chiefs will have a long time to stew over this loss before hosting Denver on Nov. 30.

''We knew we were going to be in a dogfight,'' Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce said. ''Prime-time game and they've got the guys, played a lot of tough teams very well.''

It took that impressive drive by the rookie Carr to win it. He twice had to sneak for first downs. He also threw an 8-yard pass to Mychal Rivera on third-and-6 and capitalized on a pass interference penalty against Ron Parker on another third down before finding Jones for the go-ahead score.

''To go 17 plays on the winning drive, that's impressive, man,'' Raiders defensive end Justin Tuck said. ''That lets you know a little bit of the moxie of No. 4 (Carr).''

The game wasn't sealed until Smith threw an incomplete pass on fourth-and-13 from his 48. Even that didn't come without a tense moment. Khalil Mack and Sio Moore sacked Smith on third down and celebrated in the backfield while the Chiefs ran up to the line. An angry Justin Tuck had to call timeout as he seethed at his younger teammates.

''I was so caught in the moment,'' Moore said. ''That was an error I have to make sure I clean up.''

The Chiefs battled back from a 17-3 deficit late in the third quarter to take the lead with three scores in less than 8 minutes, including a pair of touchdown passes from Smith.

The first came on a looping throw to Anthony Fasano for a 19-yard score with 1:52 remaining in the third quarter.

The Raiders managed to move the ball near midfield before stalling on their next drive, and the Chiefs answered with a four-play, 65-yard drive that was made even more difficult by a pair of holding penalties. Jamaal Charles then beat Charles Woodson out of the backfield to catch a short pass and weaved through Oakland's defense for a 30-yard score that tied it at 17. It was Charles' fifth touchdown catch in his past two games at the Oakland Coliseum.

Frankie Hammond's 28-yard punt return set up Cairo Santos' second field goal of the game, giving the Chiefs their first lead of the night.

The Raiders had started fast behind the little-used Murray, who had just 10 carries in the first 10 games. He spelled starter Darren McFadden on the second drive and provided an immediate spark for Oakland's struggling offense before leaving the game with a concussion.

Murray carried twice on his first drive, sprinting 11 yards around the end for Oakland's first rushing touchdown since Oct. 19 against Arizona. The Chiefs were looking to match the 2011 San Francisco 49ers by becoming the second team ever to allow no rushing touchdowns through 11 games.

''When you line up and it's raining, the weather's no good and they can't throw the ball, you just line up and run the football,'' Chiefs linebacker Tamba Hali said. ''We weren't playing our gaps and it's like a high school football game.''

Murray did even better the next time he touched the ball, sprinting 90 yards past the Chiefs defense for the longest run by a Raiders running back since Bo Jackson had a 92-yarder against Cincinnati in 1989. Quarterback Terrelle Pryor had a 93-yard TD run last season against Pittsburgh. Murray's 112 yards rushing on four carries were the most by any player since at least 1960 with five or fewer carries.

NOTES: Former Raiders P Ray Guy was presented his Hall of Fame ring at halftime. ... WR Junior Hemingway (concussion), T Donald Stephenson (shoulder) and DL Kevin Vickerson (calf strain) left with injuries for Kansas City.

Clippers grab big early lead, roll by Heat 110-93

MIAMI (AP) Late in the third quarter, Blake Griffin and Chris Paul found themselves all alone on a fast break, no Miami Heat player even remotely close to them.

Everything wasn't always that easy for the Los Angeles Clippers.

It only seemed that way.

Paul had 26 points and 12 assists, Griffin added 26 points and the Clippers wasted no time in taking control on the way to a 110-93 win over the Heat on Thursday night.

''We're doing what we're supposed to do,'' Paul said.

DeAndre Jordan scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Clippers (7-4), who led 39-15 after one quarter. Jordan's night: Six shots, all of them dunks, all part of the reason why the Clippers outscored Miami 44-26 in the paint.

''I think that's rare,'' Clippers coach Doc Rivers said of Jordan's all-dunk night. ''That might not be for him. ... He's the perfect guy to have on a winning basketball team.''

Chris Bosh scored 28 for Miami (6-6), which has dropped three straight home games for the first time since March 3-8, 2011. Rookie reserve Shabazz Napier had a season-high 17 points.

''We didn't have a chance tonight after that first quarter,'' Bosh said. ''Good team like that, down 20, you can't do that. We can't do that. We're not good enough to keep making mistakes. ... It was a clinic they put on us.''

Dwyane Wade missed his fourth consecutive game with a strained left hamstring. The Heat are 5-3 when Wade plays this season, 1-3 when he doesn't.

''Not a whole lot to say,'' Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. ''That was a blitz in that first quarter. They absolutely knocked us on our heels and we just could never gain our footing after that.''

It was over early. Miami held Los Angeles scoreless on the Clippers' first possession, which ordinarily would be in no way notable in an NBA game. Not in this case - considering the Clippers would score each of the next 11 times they had the basketball, running out to a 34-11 lead and never letting Miami make it a game again. . The Clippers had 39 points with 30 seconds left in the first quarter; the Heat didn't cross the 39-point threshold until 30 seconds remained in the second quarter.

Jamal Crawford had nine assists and J.J. Redick scored 14 points for the Clippers, who shot 56 percent - and that was after the percentage plummeted once Rivers emptied his bench for good midway through the fourth quarter.

Mario Chalmers and Luol Deng each scored 13 for Miami.

TIP-INS

Clippers: This marked the 15th time that the Clippers had played at Orlando and at Miami on back-to-back nights - and the first time they won both of those games. ... Here's a balanced first half: The Clippers had seven dunks and seven 3-pointers in the first 24 minutes. ... It was Paul's seventh double-double of the season.

Heat: Miami missed its first 11 3-point attempts. ... Shannon Brown started the second half after Norris Cole dislocated a finger on his left (non-shooting) hand midway through the second quarter. Cole will be reevaluated Friday. ... It was the 22nd time Bosh scored at least 28 points in a Heat uniform. Miami is 18-4 in those games. ... Miami had 11 assists, the Clippers 31.

SIZZLING STARTERS

The Clippers' starting five shot a combined 35 of 54 in the game, or 65 percent. That was the second-best shooting performance by a starting unit so far this season; New Orleans' starters made 74 percent of their shots against Minnesota on Nov. 14.

EARLY HOLE

It was the fourth time in Heat history that Miami trailed by at least 24 after a first quarter. Miami trailed by 25 at Washington on Jan. 15, and also trailed by 24 on two other occasions - at San Antonio on March 4, 2011, and at Indiana on March 23, 2007.

Cousins, Gay lead Kings past Bulls, 103-88

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) After seven straight losing seasons, there's a new vibe surrounding in Sacramento. The Kings have opened the season with some impressive victories and added another one Thursday night.

DeMarcus Cousins had 22 points and 14 rebounds and Rudy Gay scored 20 points to help the Kings beat Chicago 103-88, snapping the Bulls' six-game road winning streak.

A sellout crowd roared its approval, especially during the final three quarters when the Kings dominated, outscoring the highly-touted Bulls by 22 points. The Kings also own wins against San Antonio, Phoenix, the Clippers and Portland, which were all playoff teams last year.

Sacramento squandered big leads in its last three losses - Dallas (24), Memphis (26) and New Orleans (12) - but outscored the Bulls 23-20 in the fourth.

''We really didn't want to give this one away, we've done that in three times before,'' said Darren Collison, who had 17 points and 12 assists. ''In a way it was good, those losses taught us a lesson. It was a learning experience for us.''

Although Cousins was dominant in the second half with 16 points, he got plenty of help. Reserve Omri Casspi scored 14 points, Ben McLemore had 11 and seldom-used Derrick Williams added 10 for the Kings, who never trailed after taking the lead in the second quarter.

''We got a gap in the middle of the second quarter where we got hurt,'' Chicago coach Tom Thibodeau said. ''The game was won there and we couldn't get a handle on it the rest of the way.''

Jimmy Butler had 23 points and Taj Gibson, Mike Dunleavy and Aaron Brooks had 12 each for Chicago. Joakim Noah had 10 points and 11 rebound despite foul trouble. The Bulls played the second game of a seven-game road trip, their longest of the season.

Chicago was trying to win its first seven road games for the first time in franchise history. Instead they joined the rest of the league with at least one road loss. The last team to start 7-0 on the road was San Antonio, which won its first eight road games in 2010-11.

''This was a team that manhandled the Clippers on the road a few days ago,'' Kings coach Michael Malone said. ''We held them to 59 points in the final three quarters. ''That was a great defensive effort.''

The Kings held an 88-77 lead when Cousins left the game with his fifth foul with 7:26 left to play. But the frustrated Bulls could never get closer than eight points.

Chicago played without starters Derrick Rose (strained left hamstring) and Pau Gasol (strained left calf) for the second straight game.

Noah picked up his fifth foul at the 4:30 mark of the third quarter after fighting for rebound against Cousins. An incensed Noah stormed to the bench after also being called for a technical.

The Kings promptly went on an 11-1 run to build a 13-point lead.

Bulls: Rose was running sprints at Thursday's shootaround, but watched the game in street clothes with Gasol. Rose has missed seven of the Bulls' 12 games. . Heinrich was called for a technical in the first quarter following an encounter with Cousins after making a basket.

Kings: Ex-Kings standouts Mike Bibby and Chris Webber were introduced to the crowd along with video clips as part of the team honoring its ''legends.'' Webber was the color commentator for the TNT-televised game and Bibby sat courtside. . The Kings outscored the Bulls 30-18 in the second quarter and held a 28-21 advantage in the third..

QUOTABLE: ''I don't care if we're on TNT or the Home Shopping Network,'' Malone said after being asked if the victory was more pleasing because it was a rare nationally televised game for Sacramento.

THREE-POINT DISPARITY: The Bulls made all five of their 3s in the opening quarter, then misfired on the next eight the remainder of the game. The Kings, who began the night with the NBA's worst 3-point percentage (.302), made 4 of 6 attempts.

LOL@Oakland finally got a win hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. The Raiders have sucked for a long time. I'm surprised they beat Kansas City. I saw the end of Miami and Clippers game and I see Dwayne Wade didn't play because he was wearing a suit. I knew Miami wasn't gonna be any good without Lebron and now it's starting to show. They were looking alright when the season started. But now they're looking bad. I saw the Sacramento and Chicago game and I was surprised Sacramento won.

I saw Chris Webber, Mike Bibby, Brad Miller were at the Bulls and Sacramento game. I thought it was nice that the Sacramento crowd gave Chris Webber a standing ovation. He did a lot for Sacramento when he was there. He was a very good player and I miss him. I also liked him when he played for Washington and Golden State. I remember when he dunked on Charles Barkley and made him fall when he was with the Warriors LOL.
