Bewitched had several cast replacements over time. Do you prefer the originals or the replacements?
The Originals: Darrin #1, Gladys Kravitz #1, Louise Tate #1, Mr. Stephens #1 The Replacements: Darrin #2, Gladys Kravitz #2, Louise Tate #2, Mr. Stephens #2 |

I'm one of the few people who like Dick Sargent.

I never liked the replacement of Gladys. Alice Pearce made that character her own. The new one was too OTT and i found her and Abner as the weakest aspects of the series. Out of respect, they should of retired the character like they did with Aunt Clara and given Samantha brand new neighbors.

I always found it odd that every time an actor was replaced the new actor played the role more harshly. Sandra Gould was a very angry and harsh Gladys (most of the time), Dick Sargent was a much colder and angry Darrin (although this creeped into the writing of York's last year too). And sweet Aunt Clara was replaced with a frankly disturbingly odd Esmeralda.
Even Serena became more harsh and cartoonish. I do give Kasey Rogers credit, though, for making the second Louise more friendly, warm and funny. |

I think it is comical to call Dick Sargent more harsh, angry or threatening then York was when in reality it is obvious that the opposite was the case, it was York who was Hysterically screaming, yelling, pounding the table and much more angry and threatening then Dick Sargent was as Darrin, DS was very mild, laid back and almost mellow compared to York, much more relaxed towards Samantha and even in respect to her using witchcraft, he was still against it but he didn't freak out the way York had as Darrin.
This made perfect sense as they played the part at different points of the marriage whose dynamic would change over time as would Darrin's reaction to things even if the core of who he was did not. I think York was more romantic and exciting as Darrin but that Sargent was warmer & even more loving as Darrin. I think Sandra gets a bad rap, she was simply more adversarial and aggressive in attempting to find out what was what and then getting Samantha. In many respects from a characterization perspective it was more effective i feel. As far as Serena goes i think high camp and over the top is a better description then cartoonish, i do not think her character became more harsh at all, if anything at times it was more sweet and nice almost like the flower child mentality of the era. |

The original intention of the Gladys character was that you had sympathy for her because she was right. There was something going on at the Stephens house. Sandra's just had such a harsh edge that you didn't care for her as you did Alice. |

I prefer Dick York (as Darrin), Alice Pearce (as Gladys), Kasey Rogers (as Louise) and Roy Roberts (as Mr. Stephens). Also Aunt Clara over Esmerelda!

Sargent was calm and relaxed all the time & usually was in a state of bemusement when not being hit with some witchcraft, York often seemed as if he was about to clock Samantha more often then not in his fury, Sargent on the other hand was more displeased and upset when something "Happened". |

I was watching Mary Poppins the other night and I always enjoy the scene where Michael is being obstinate just for the sake of it. Mary Poppins tells him “You know best, as usual.” Adorable scene. |

You know i was going to comment on your reply but none of this one said anything, that is NOT fair and puts me at a disadvantage when i am a sentient and cognitive human being and many like you are not.!
Even Mary Poppins would see through you and she would not be amused.! Quote:
