I was a kid when The Jeffersons was on originally, my family watched it all the time and it was one of our favorite TV shows. It's been a long time since I've seen most of the episodes, although I do watch reruns of it now and then.
So a lot of stuff I've forgotten about. I do remember Marla Gibbs leaving the show and watching the Florence spinoff Checking In, too bad it wasn't as good as The Jeffersons and got cancelled. This is one time that I remember a character being spun off a show and then the spinoff was cancelled and the character is put back on the original show. Was there ever an explanation given as to why Florence went back to work for George and Louise, because if there was I just don't remember. Or did the producers just ignore that and it was never explained why she went back to work for the Jeffersons? I'm just wondering. Thanks. Ed. |

I think they had the hotel where Florence was working at burn down because Checking In was cancelled after four episodes. If a new sitcom were cancelled that quickly, then this must mean it was probably quicker to produce an episode of a videotaped sitcom than an episode of a filmed sitcom. Either that, or Checking In was announced as cancelled before CBS's upfront presentation for the 1981-82 season.
Supposedly, they tried to cut expenses by ordering just four episodes of Checking In and holding it off until the end of the 1980-81 season. Viewership for CI was probably not sufficient enough to warrant renewal for another season, and CI was beaten in its timeslot by Mork & Mindy on ABC Network. |

Thanks MikeL. I knew they must've given a reason why Florence came back I just couidn't remember what it was. I'm sure I must've seen the episode where she was rehired but I don't remember that either. Oh well.

It was part 1 of "Florence did it Different" when she appeared at the end of the episode. Then in Part 2 she finds out the Jeffersons hired a new maid |
