Default New Color Episode: "Job Switching" This December!

Saw this today in CBS's annual Holiday Programming release:

I LOVE LUCY CHRISTMAS SPECIAL (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) – Features two back-to-back classic episodes of the 1950s series, including the seldom-seen “Christmas Episode,” and an all-new colorized version of “Job Switching” (a.k.a. “Chocolate Factory”). Both were colorized with a vintage look, a nod to the 1950s period in which the shows were filmed. The main titles and end credits of the two episodes are seamlessly combined into one set—at the beginning and end of the hour, with no interruption between the episodes. (Rebroadcast)

I was wondering whether CBS was going to air I Love Lucy again this holiday season. Thanks for the heads up.

I don't understand this "vintage look" or what it has to do with the '50s. Color movies in the 1950s meant Technicolor, and that looks nothing like Technicolor.

I'm actually excited about this; it's bringing another generation to Lucy. I hope next year they colorized "The Freezer"---my favorite episode.

Here is what CBS had to say about 2013's special airing of "The I Love Lucy Christmas Show" & "Lucy's Italian Movie."

Good idea Job Switching would be cool to see in color.

TV Colorful news for Christmas 2014!

Wow! That should be something to see in color, with all the chocolate-slinging going on at the candy factory.

Keep in mind that Karl Freund, when filming "I Love Lucy," had sets and props painted in various shades of gray to minimize contrast problems (flares, "comets," etc.) found so frequently in early black-and-white TV. So colorizing most any "Lucy" episode will result in muted tones, and not the dazzling Technicolor effect of comparable motion pictures.

(Must admit I'd like to see of the California episodes featuring the 1955 Pontiac convertible in color. Raven Black and Avalon Yellow--two authentic Pontiac colors offered on 1955 models--would have come out black-and-light-gray when filmed in black-and-white. That would be a dazzling sight to see and a classic example of the pastel two-tones popular on mid-'50s cars!)

Vintage look doesn't necessarily mean muted.
Lucy's hair was bright.
I wondered if in real life that's how it was.

I can't wait for the conveyor belt going faster and faster.

Hurray to color!
The more the better.

CBS Repeating I Love Lucy Christmas Special
Last December, CBS premiered an hour-long special consisting of two colorized I Love Lucy episodes from 1956: “The I Love Lucy Christmas Special” (considered missing until 1989; read about its recovery here) and “Lucy’s Italian Movie” with its iconic grape-stomping scene.

This year the network has announced it will air a new I Love Lucy special on Sunday, December 7th from 8-9PM. It will pair “The I Love Lucy Christmas Special” with another newly colorized episode from 1952, “Job Switching,” in which Lucy and Ethel get jobs at a candy factory. The episodes will be combined with just one set of opening and closing credits. The special will also feature never-before-broadcast costume and makeup tests from I Love Lucy.

Last year’s special aired on a Friday and drew close to 9 million viewers. Will this year’s Sunday broadcast fare better?
