I can only think of one time in the episode "Samantha Steals the Squad Car" when Samantha dropped the N-Bomb! Chief found it offensive since he was arguing with Nell but later took everything he said back from Nell.
Nell and Chief would butt heads a lot, but I was wondering if Chief stood-up for Nell? |

Yes, he did...
"A Good Man Is Hard To Find" in season 1 when he yelled at his officer for making jokes about Nell. But also, he defended her to Aunt Blanch in "The Custody Suit" in season 2 when Blanch thought he and Nell had sex in the kitchen and she was insulting Nell for how she was rasing the girls. |

Chief was partially offensive on Nell, which is not too much as on his daughters.

Nell defended the Chief a few times. Once to that father of the missing baby. She said "This here is a good man, ain't nobody talk to him that way. Nobody!"
Also, she did a similar thing in the Chief's office with Officer Dwyer. She said the Chief was a good man and father and mowed the lawn every Saturday. I forget other times she defended him to people, but those two come to mind. |

I wonder now if Nell ever defended her friend Addy Wilson?
I can only remember vaguely in "Baby of the Family" when she felt embarrassed that Addy and her pastor was seeing Joey in blackface, so she escorts Joey out as quickly as possible so that Addy and her church members didn't see the controversial scenario. |
