Shocking story for season 5 (which never happened)!

Read a rumor once that Carroll O'Connor wanted to do a story in the final season where Stephanie's mother turns out to be alive. And he wanted Elizabeth Montgomery (Bewitched) to play the part!

He received resistance..not for the story but for Montgomery. She was known to be very possessive and would command too much money, and ask to stay on in the show. Perhaps, in a story where she tries to buy out the bar from underneath Archie.

Executives wanted Sigourney Weaver to play the part. O'Connor was not impressed..perhaps this was the final straw in getting the show cancelled?

I wasn't impressed with STEPHANIE so Im glad the show was cancelled

I kinda liked the show, they had Archie grow as a character and he was alot more tolerant of minorities. Also the Coming to terms with Edith's death is one of the best eps of the old show and this show.

I'd pay to know how they planned to pull this off without it becoming a total shark jump. After all the entire basis of the Stephanie character and her interactions with Arch, Floyd Baines Mills and Grandma Harris for 5 seasons was her mother dying in a car accident.
