I just feel that he's pushed out from the fan spotlight. He's even reduced to "his son died in the Lockerbie bombing", which obscures his life and achievements.

Somewhat, but he was a supporting character on the show, but a great character at that.

Considering Larry Tate was the major mortal male character--other than Darrin, of course--he was a good deal more important than he looked at first. How many episodes revolved around Larry's tangles with Darrin over an account, or arm-twisting Darrin and Sam to help him into or out of a sticky situation?
(A classic line: from Sam: "Tell Larry if I have to make dinner for a client one more time, I want to be put on the payroll.") Not to mention Larry, in his own way, could be every bit as irritating as Endora? In some ways, Larry and Louise were the Fred and Ethel to Darren and Samantha's Ricky and Lucy--another set of characters they could bounce off of...and Louise was always good for a few laughs, too! I think that, beginning with the Dick Sargent years, David White finally got the credit due him when the opening sequence added his name and role to follow Agnes Moorehead's! "You son-of-a-gun!" |

I liked how Samantha and Louise became friends. I think Larry was a bit underrated he did add humor to the show. He always made my Dad laugh when he would call Darrin a Son of a gun.

Underrated by whom? He was never underrated by me. He was a very important and entertaining part of the show.
