"The IT Crowd" Gets U.S. Remake

Bill Lawrence is in with "The IT Crowd".

The "Cougar Town" creator is shepherding a pilot adaptation of the popular British comedy for NBC, our sister site Deadline reports, with "Community‘s" Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan on board to write and executive-produce with Lawrence.

Additional EPs include Jeff Ingold and Craig Cegielski.

"The IT Crowd" follows the exploits of a British company’s information-technology department.

NBC had previously tried to launch a U.S. version of "The IT Crowd" back in 2008, starring "Community's" Joel McHale and Jessica St. Clair. NBC kept pushing around the premiere date, then ultimately decided not to air it.

wow - that actually might have worked with Joel McHale - but probably not.

I honestly don't think they could do it justice here - who do you replace an incorrigible Irishman with?

When will Hollywood realize the futility of trying to make American versions of UK sitcoms?? They've tried and failed several times with Fawlty Towers. They tried and failed with Red Dwarf. It will be the same result with "The IT Crowd"!

I agree with you. I don't think they should try make American versions of these shows. Other than The Office, it just hasn't worked. I'd much rather just see these British shows on American tv.
