Default Question for GP fans

I can't say I've ever been a GP fan and just casually seen a few episodes but I've been asking myself all this time and I can't seem to get a straight forward answer.

But how did the ABC network get past the censors by having Andrew Koening's character called "Boner" on the show? I know for sure even back then the meaning had a sexual reference to it.

Maybe because his full name was Richard Stabone.

The nickname "Boner" was based on the characters full name Richard Millhouse Stabbone. In one of the episodes we learn that Mike and Boner met on their first day of school and since Mike thought Richard Millhouse Stabbone was too long and difficult a name to say he nicknamed him Boner. So it got by the sensers because it was a shortened form of a proper name and because the characters were 6 years-old when the nickname was first given to him and couldn't have possibly known it's other meaning.

It may also have helped that some of the fanbase would be too young to even know the sexual meaning of "boner". I love Growing Pains and watched it as a kid and that honestly was never something I really noticed on the show. Boner is a nickname for Stabone, as has been said. Also, it's important to note that Mike sometimes also just called Richard Stabone, "Bone", rather than the usual nickname, "Boner", which to me also emphasizes that it's just a shortening of the character's last name.

I think the show was on in a very different time too. No where near as political correctness as it is today. Besides "Boner", there were a lot of jokes that wouldn't fly today, and we all can be thankful for that.

And Mace, buy S1-3 on DVD and get in touch with BettyWhiteFan for the rest. You won't regret it. Re-watching it now, and it's still as great as I remember watching it as a kid. Still my favorite show of all time.

Mace,

I'm likely too late for this to warn you but... Do not ask BettyWhiteFan for this series. He's been banned from the site for misconduct and I , like many others, can give you a million reasons why you should not deal with him.

If you are given his contact info by anyone on this board that doesn't know about his previous bad dealings I would avoid contacting him at all costs.

Instead make a post for what you are looking for in the trading post section of the boards and I bet someone on here.. with a better track record... could get the series for you.

That's random. This guys just asked a general question, he was not asking for a trade. There is a thread you can use to discuss bad traders but this isn't the place.

Mike... I mean JoshLarsen

It wasn't random at all, yanksno1 said in the message above / before mine

I was just trying to tell Mace that he WOULD INDEED regret contacting "BettyWhiteFan" ... if he was of a mind to see the complete run of this show again. And if you read my message you would have seen I directed him to the trading post section of the site where many HONEST traders do help people out when they are looking.

While I mean no disrespect to yanksno1.. if you want to talk about randomness it was actually his post which prompted my warning to the Original Poster.. so there's that too.

As you said.. there is indeed a forum to discuss bad traders.. however in this instance it was not so much discussing a bad trader per se.. but rather trying to warn someone directly if they did take yanksno1 advice as to the consequences such an action may result in. So for that reason it belongs right here where that discussion started and where he would likely see it, for as we all know, this board emails you when a topic you created is posted in.

However if the mods wish to move my comments I am completely OK with that. I play by the rules and am happy to follow them.

I think the warning about BettyWhiteFan here is warranted and helpful - he has been known to go to ridiculous lengths to get what he wants; even to go so far as to create new user accounts and make posts defending himself and questioning anyone that tries to warn people about trading with BettyWhiteFan.

Oh, okay

I didn't see the other post referring to that bad trader. Sorry about that!
