Jaleel White and Kellie Williams had a lot of chemistry playing Steve and Laura in a platonic sort of way but not romantically. I think that's one of the areas where Season 9 failed. Not only did they rush the Steve/Laura romance that season with the sloppy writing, but Jaleel and Kellie just didn't have any romantic chemistry. They had lots of chemistry when Steve was pursuing Laura or when they were shown as friends. I saw Jaleel in a radio show interview in which the interviewer asked if he and Kellie ever dated or had a romantic relationship, which Jaleel answered that she was like his sister. And it showed on-screen. I love Steve and Laura's friendship. Their friendship developed extremely well, and I think the show would've been better if they became best friends in the end instead of a bland couple.
What do you think? Do you think Steve and Laura were better as friends or boyfriend/girlfriend? |

Better as friends, without any doubt.

I think Steve was a lot better with Myra. While I actually would've preferred the series ended with Steve being single rather than being with Myra or Laura. He and Laura weren't a very good couple in my opinion. He and Myra were funny together, but Myra was too possessive and crazy (especially in the final season in which the writers destroyed her characters by getting rid of the redeeming qualities the character had).

The problem is that the writers probably made Myra crazy in a lame attempt to make the viewers not root for her, when they suddenly had Steve end up with Laura instead. And it also feels like if he hadn't dumped Myra for Laura, she wouldn't have ended up that way. Yes, Myra had been a little bit crazy at times even before that. But it was being dumped by a guy, whom she had loved deeply for several years, that pushed her over the edge.

I think Steve and Laura had chemistry as friends rather than as a couple.

Well, they didn't fool me, as I never lost my sympathy for her. But I know what you mean.

I loved their friendship. I loved what Laura had to say after Steve saved Carl from getting zapped from the broken lamp.
