I know that this was just a sitcom, and the focus was on humor rather than on reality, and I don't want to over analyze this show, but don't you find it a little strange that they were stuck on that Island for all of those years and the Skipper never loses weight?
If they were stranded for all of those years, he would have certainly dropped at least 60 pounds, if not more. Look how much weight Tom Hanks lost in the movie Castaway, or look how much weight the contestants of the game show "Survivor" loses in 13 weeks. One can also look at how thin a homeless person becomes, but for some reason on Gilligan's Island, the Skipper manages to mantain his heavy frame, in fact he may have gained a few pounds while on the Island. I am not knocking the actor who played the Skipper, but I just find it a bit strange, that we our to buy into the fantasy of being stranded on a remote Island, but we are not given the true reality of such an adventure. Don't get me wrong, I loved this show as a child, and I thought Bob Denver was hilarious as Gilligan, and I loved the rest of the cast as well. |

Well I guess one of things about the show is that almost everything about it is unrealistic but most fans just ignore them. Actually I think about stuff like that alll the time but I don't let them bother me. In fact I like to think about the possible reasons for those questions. lol

Yes,it's a weird to see a big man like the Skipper stay at the same weight without loosing some while he was on the island!!!I think it's because of the comedie's duos of that era.One was big and the other was thin.Gleason&Carney,Laurel & Hardy.Abott &Costello. The fashion of the time was more back then important then realisme
But,there were so great together why wonder about things like that?

Yeah, questions like that come to my mind all the time. Like, have any of you ever noticed that in some episodes the Skipper and Gilligan will be packing their duffle bags/sea chests? It always looks like they're putting clothes in there, but you never see them wear different clothes. It's always the red and the blue shirt. But don't get me wrong... I love watching GI simply because it's such an entertaining, hilarious show--and for the fact that I love Bob Denver.

You know what? It was Mary Ann's coconut cream pies! those are what did it! She must have had some coconut sugar or something, but Skipper sure was fond of them. That's how he stayed so chunky, I am sure!

Considering how so many people were able to find their way
on the Island maybe the Skipper called out for Pizza when everyone else had their backs turned! ![]() btw:Another unreal bit about the show:Ever noticed how well coiffured the girls and Mrs.Howell's hairs were? |

True, Ginger's and Mary Ann's hair and nails were perfect. Why the girls never were out of make-up?The professor could invent anything from bamboos and coconuts but, couldn't fixed the hole in the boat. How come the closes were always freshly washed, never ripped and well ironed? Why the Howells brought so many suitcases on the 3 hours tour?Nobody was rude or impolite.Everybody was nice and good with everyone. Those lovable and funny characters were unreal and totally out of this world
![]() That show is a fairy tale,a pure fantaisy...Wonderful concept that people(of any age,any culture)watched and are still watching all over the world
