Default Saturday Night Live 10/4/14 - Sarah Silverman and Maroon 5

I actually liked Sarah Silverman when she originally appeared as a cast member on SNL, although they really didn't use her very much or to her best advantage - of course she was really young then so I kind of get it. That said, it seems like they should have asked her back to host sooner than this considering all the success that she has had. Anyways my thoughts on this episode:

60 Minutes interviews Obama about ISIS Cold Open - never been a big fan of the overtly political sketches, but I like Jay Pharoah - he does a great Obama. This sketch was about par for the course for cold opens, got a few quick laughs but not much more.

Sarah Silverman's monologue - I thought it was hilarious the way she just sat in that poor girl's lap and brought her into the bit with what legitimately seemed like no preparation at all. The part where she was talking to herself from 20 years ago was great too, overall a good and truly original monologue.

The Fault In Our Stars 2: The Ebola In Our Everything - I thought it was a pretty good parody commercial, funny enough without dragging on.

Joan Rivers Heaven Roast - this was a little clunky, but I thought Sarah Silverman did it well, I don't think it was a bad way to honor Joan at all.

White People - another passable commercial parody, it was funny enough, but kinda dragged on and was really only a one-note joke.

Forgotten TV Gems - I love everything Keenan Thompson does, the rest of the sketch was a little silly, but had some laughs.

Weekend Update - Michael Che had some funny jokes, Keenan Thompson as Al Sharpton was the highlight though, he just could go on like that for the whole segment. The feminists and the "everything is a woman" was more weird than funny. Overall not bad, just a shame that Michael Che has Jost dragging the whole thing down.

The River Sisters - apparently there's a bit of controversy over whether this sketch was plagiarized from a similar Groundlings sketch, if it was, then it seems like that probably borrowed a lot from earlier SNL skits because that's what it reminded me of. The jokes were only so-so and there were a few flubs, overall only an average bit.

Airport Pickup - the girl admits to cheating on her boyfriend and he turns up in the back seat waiting to propose - along with the rest of her family and Adam Levine. This sketch feels like one that they have already done before, it started off pretty good and had some great one-liners, but went on way too long.

The December Generation - I honestly don't know if this digital short was supposed to be funny, subversive, or just weird, but it didn't really succeed at any of them to me.

Vitamix - was this the only sketch Vanessa Bayer was in this week? I thought it was a weird sketch, pretty much a one-joke bit, but it did have a couple of good lines in there.

Maroon 5 - not a fan of this band, I really only watched a tiny bit of the performance before i was forced to fast forward through it.

Overall it was a good episode, but did have some low points.
