CBS Renews "Extant"

CBS has renewed summer show "Extant" for its second season, the network announced on Thursday.

"We're committed to delivering our viewers and advertisers year-round programming with a wide variety of storytelling," CBS Entertainment Chairman Nina Tassler said in a statement. "We continue to see summer as a great place for unique concepts, innovative business models and passionate television audiences."

The Steven Spielberg-produced "Extant" stars Halle Berry as an astronaut who mysteriously becomes pregnant at the same time her robot son predicts an impending extinction.

The freshman season averaged 8.64 million weekly viewers, according to CBS.

Molly (Halle Berry) will be more proactive in light of threats to her world and the sanctity of her family and home life. Creator Mickey Fisher will still be involved.
