I recently had my DirecTV box upgraded to get HD channels and it has DVR capability, I just record show that I'm unable to watch because I work and then after I delete them.

We use ours ALL the time. We used to have TiVo but long story short, ours had a DVD burner in it that was constantly braking so we finally got rid of it and got this DVR through Comcast. I love it but you're right you can only tape so much. They have newer ones that are supposed to be better so if we can ever clear out everything from our current DVR we're going to upgrade.

I have DIRECTV with a DVR. I use mine almost daily.

I never watch any of my regular shows by appointment, I always use my DVR so I can fast forward the commercials.

I record "Wheel of Fortune" & "Days of our Lives" evey weekday then I usually watch them the same day in the evening or night. I also DVR "Murphy Brown" from encore classic so I can record them all to DVD later.

I also DVR "Scandal", "The Mysteries of Laura", "2 Broke Girls", & "Pretty Little Liars" but I usually end up watching them within a couple days or so.

Ditto. I have a DVR built into my Dish receiver (have had one with Dish, and prior to that, with DirecTV, for years), and almost never watch TV 'live', unless it's a movie on TCM or something as background. I have no idea what the big new commercial campaigns are, because I skip them, so I never see them. It's bliss.

I also have a stand-alone DVD recorder that also has a DVR built into it, so anything worth keeping (or rare stuff on old VHS tapes I still have) is recorded on that and then burned onto a DVD-r.

I have a DVR through Comcast. I love it. It does only hold 100 hours of time but with only having 100 hours doesn't makes me hold on to the shows. With the VCR days I would hold onto tapes and clutter up a bookcase. The 100 hours forces me to erase shows. With so many stations, most shows will be seen again.

How does one go about burning TV shows onto DVD with the DirecTV DVR?

We have one through Charter Cable hooked up to the big screen tv, but I have no clue how to operate it. My husband uses it all the time to record sports, The Voice, Survivor & other shows that he likes but shows I never watch. He's always having to delete stuff he hasn't watched in order to record something else.

I've got one, I haven't paid for cable or DVR since college. Working for Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks has paid off.

I also have a DVD recorder. I DVR shows on my DIRECTV receiver and then play them back at a later time when I can use my DVD recorder to record them to blank DVDs.

I love my DVR. I can't imagine being without it. You can schedule your own primetime lineups which comes in handy when trying to get around all of the reality crap.

My household has two DVR's. The one isn't used too much, but the one is nearly full all the time.

We have 2 DVR's through Dish network. We use them for all shows because we hate commercials but honestly not many shows we watch anymore except on TCM, Rural aka Family Net, INSP, UP and fetv.

3 of them through Direct TV.

One for each TV in the house. Love the things. Had different ones for at least 11 years. Don't miss having to tape stuff with a VCR at all.
