Don't get me wrong I am a Massive fan of Frasier, but I do think it has lost it's way of smart & funny writing. 9 seasons, 200+ episodes is more than enough. It should go out on a high like Seinfeld did and not just churn out enough episodes to match its predicessor "Cheers". The latest episode shown in UK "Bully for Martin", was the worst I have ever seen.

I do agree that it might be time for the series to pack it in. No show can maintain high quality for that long. But the gang at Frasier, the writers and actors, still manage to make me laugh out loud.
The original episode that ran last night here in the states (I don't know the official title of the episode, but it features Freddy in a national spelling bee) was one of the funniest episodes i have seen this season. I do give them credit, after all of these years they still manage to surprise and amuse. |

And it'll be around for three more years.

Yes, Frasier has been renewed through 2004 at the least.
As for me, let sitcoms live a long time. You may think I'm crazy, but I think long-running shows like Happy Days (10 years), The Jeffersons (10 years), Cheers (11 years) and many others than ran from 6 to 9 years could have lasted several more. But, then again, that might just be me!

Kelsey Grammer has agreed to do 2 more years, as with Cheers that lasted 11 years. Tough cookies

I don't know...
As much as I do enjoy it when a show has some success and is around a long time, I think sometimes the Networks keep long running shows around just to brag about something. FOX kept "Married Wth Children" on the air, when the show was way past it's prime, just so they could say that they had the longest running sitcom on the air at the time. Quantity doesn't mean quality all the time.. |

I'll tell you one thing, if it's gonna be around for 2 more years, they'd better improve the writing or something from what the show's been like this season. Don't get me wrong, I like the show, it's just that this season hasn't been their best work. But, they still had a couple good episodes. I think part of the problem is, it's not the same between Niles & Daphnie anymore. Maybe they should have some new character, as a "foil" for Fraiser.

Maybe one of the reasons that Frasier hasn't been as crisp this season is due to the tragic death of its producer David Angell. He was definitely a driving force for both Frasier AND Cheers!

I agree....it was a really good show but I think its run its course.I think about the time they lost me was when Daphne and Niles hooked up.Not totally believable.I watch it every once and awhile, I caught the Spelling Bee ep which I thought was pretty lame. They're running out of ideas. HOWEVER...I will say this:I like the ones Jean Smart is in.The chemistry between her and Frasier is good.Love/Hate/Fear....maybe they should show them more than the cooing twosome of Niles and Daphne.Happy couple doesnt equal funny!!!!

I aggree, but I don't think the show has "run its course". They should limit the scenes with Niles & Daphnie to, say, one scene every couple of weeks, & maybe make Jean Smarts character a regular.

As for a Jean Smart spin-off, i dont know. I read back in September that a new female was going to be added to the show in Novemember of 2001, i was figuring whoever he picked to be with in the season opener. But that didnt happen, by the way I was routing for Jean and I wished she would have stayed on the show. And I thought that if they added a new cast member that would add new story lines, and I think thats what they should do. I think they should finally have Frasier meet someone, someone steadly to be with. My thoughts are, they date in the 10th season, next year, and get married in the middle of the 11th, and then do half a season as he is married, and then wrap this terrific show up. I want to see this show stay ontop, but if it slipps, oh well, I will always be watching, and I am happy no matter what. Good Luck Frasier |
