Default How often do you see a mic in the shot?

I noticed a mic (or its' shadow) in the shot fairly often... the entrance hall, stairs, dining room doorway into the kitchen, kitchen, and in the attached pic, you can plainly see the shadow of the mic... Beaver's playing football (by himself)... Wally's coming out the door. This is from "Beaver Makes a Loan".
Also from this episode, Beaver's drawing "Larry's a rat".

Hey that's neat...I did see the shadow of a mic in Beaver's Tree when June and Ward are at the back door ready to leave and Beaver says June looks as good as when Uncle Harry died. You can see a shadow right above Beaver on the door jam.

Let's not forget that thing in the ceiling that quickly closes in the front hall way when June and Ward are waiting for Beaver to come home in Last Day of School after giving Miss Landers the slip.

Default Mic in the shot...

The best one (I forget the ep.)... Eddie, Wally, and/or either Beaver, or lumpy are going up the stairs... you can see the whole mic against the upper-left wall by the stairs.
There's another mic shadow in the kitchen by thelback door... I just can't understand them missing that stuff... but- then again, in the late 50s/early 60s... by the time the film was developed, and edited... it was probably cost prohibitive to re-shot. Plus... the average TV viewer back then was not at all sophisticated, or observant.
Still... it's kinda fun to catch em with their pants down.
I still want to get more info about the set vs. the actual back-lot Cleaver house. I'm sometimes surprised at the consistancies... like the boys bathroom being over the kitchen (sink side)(Beaver takes a bath). Beaver

I also figured out that the boys' bathroom was in the exact place over the kitchen for that big wet spot in the kitchen ceiling. Also when Larry's suitcase is being raised up from the bedroom on the side of the house by the big den window and in Ward's Baseball when Beaver is talking to Larry from his bedroom it's correctly over the den window.

Yeah... ya know, I often wonder if 'some' interior shots may have actually been done there on the back lot, rather than on the set. I suspect the same when that house was used for "Mucus" Welby, M.D. There's the obvious set shots, with the fake outdoor scene paintings... but I dunno... somethin' just makes me suspect that maybe some shots were. (could be wrong).
Ya know, the outdoor shot of the house (from the right side)... you can tell the chimney must be fake. In that shot, the chimney is over the den, not the living room. Oh well... so much for sobriety.

Hey I just saw that mic in the shot...you can't miss it...It's in Wally's Practical Joke and Eddie arrives to tell Wally the plan he has for Lumpy. Beaver, Wally and Eddie are at the bottom of the stairs..as they start to run upstairs you can't miss the mic in the upper left corner of the shot. It's so obvious.

If you can post a screen shot, that would be cool!

I can't see the Mic pictured in the "Larry the Rat" drawing though. But in the other shots, it is very clear.

Jack

PS LOL! If it's the thing above Larry the Rat in the drawing, I always thought that Beaver drew that as part of the picture! hahahaha!

Also look for the mic's shadow... as I recall, I tend to see the shadow more often that the actual mic.
Initially, I thought to myself... "jeez... how could the proucer(s)/editor just let that pass"... but the reality is:
1. It was the late 50's/early 60's, and the American TV audience was much less sophisticated.
2. Usually, these instances are so brief, that most people aren't gonna notice them anyway (unless maybe, Judy Hensler was swinging naked from the mic boom or something (now there's an image)... (or Larry)... (or Ward).
3. Of course, this was prior to shooting with video... so even if during editing, they see that the mic or shadow is in the shot... the only fix would have been to do a reshoot... which could affect the budget. I suppose, they could maybe use 'a hunk' from a different 'take'... but I'm getting into that 'armchair quarterback' zone. It is what it is... which for me, is more like a game... looking for goofs.

One good example of editing goofs... When Beaver & Wally are fishing... Beaver wades into the lake to get the canoe... notice his shirt. He wades into the water, where his shirt is only wet at waist-level. The next shot shows him coming out of the water where he's obviously been chest-deep. Anyway... it's another one of those sneaky little continuity issues that were missed. No biggie... and gives some of us something to do.

I have Netflix so how would I do a screen shot? Love when the ceiling opens up and shows some device in Last Day of School.
