I agree with you that there are no good sitcoms anymore. The fact that "Touched By An Angel" still exists is an exception. Have you ever heard of the Parents Television Council? Log onto http://www.parentstv.org for details.

I Agree! I Can Now Only Live on NickatNite and TV Land. All of There Sitcoms Are Good, Though I Feel Sorry for Nick because they are being eaten up by Nickelodeon. Also, it's not there fault IMHO when shows get pushed back. THey can't squeeze all of there shows into two hours, esp. with Twice as Nice!

Why can't N @ N and Nickeloden just separate the channel? Put Nickeloden on one channel and N @ N on another channel.

I disagree there are great shows on telvision now such as Friends, Will and Grace, and Scrubs. What is the parents council thing. It's never gonna work. your all just simple minded living in the 60's and 50's when tv shows were very corny.

No, I don't think that's the case. I agree wholeheartedly with the people above that the sitcoms today are just pure garbage (with the exception of some CBS shows). We are not simple-minded just because we like to watch decent clean shows. I don't think we're still living in the 50's and 60's. Just because a show isn't filth doesn't necessarily make it corny. There used to be so much family sitcoms out during the 70's, 80's, and 90's that managed to get way past the corny Leave It To Beaver/Brady Bunch stereotype and still be clean and just down-right funny. Heck even the more adult-oriented sitcoms were even good. Yeah, they got a little dirty but the jokes were done tastefully and weren't so blunt and in your face. Today's sitcoms just are not funny and have no substance at all. Last night, I actually tortured myself and watched Will & Grace and Just Shoot Me with my mom, and I sat there thinking "This is funny? Is this what the shows have come to?" I didn't laugh once. Then later on at around midnight I was flipping through the channels and found Bosom Buddies on one of my local stations and was laughing my butt off. My mom even woke up to see if I was OK, lol. I also get a good laugh watching Designing Women, Golden Girls, and Growing Pains. This is all just my opinion. I'm not trying to offend anyone.

The problem is that too many comedies (I won't begin to touch on dramas and others) use profanity and shock to get humor. In decades past, shows like The Cosby Show, The Facts of Life and Valerie didn't use sex and violence to get the laughs that they received.

Unfortunately, the world is changing. What was considered "taboo" 20 years ago is now totally acceptable. For teenagers today, homosexuality is just another lifestyle. For people of my generation (and older), we had to redevelop our ideas and understanding of multiple lifestyles and be more accepting (or still be against these issues).

I also strongly believe that anytime there is a reflection to childhood that the memories are so strong that they make it seem "perfect." For most people, it was a great thing to go to grandma's after school and watch cartoons, eat cookies, take naps and play outside. I'm 26 and still wish I could do that. However, in the "real world," whenever you get to it, those options aren't always available.

So, yes, I would love to have a network of classic sitcoms from all eras (because shows that were old when I was a kid are still funny to me). I think, also, that my children will enjoy the shows that are on when they are growing up, and will look back on those with fascination as they get older.

This is just a lot of random thoughts on an early Saturday morning, but this topic intrigued me. I enjoy several shows that are on television today. However, when I go to bed and turn my TV on, I'd rather have "The Golden Girls" or "Voltron" as opposed to some 2002 police drama. Who wants to fall asleep with that on his or her mind??

Thanks for being my sounding board...

It's true. Most of the sitcoms of today are crap. I think a show is genius when it doesn't have to rely on sex to be funny. I seriously think Seinfeld was the last truly GREAT sitcom to go off the air. I mean, of course they talked about sex. But it wasn't the basis of EVERY episode. Raunchy sex jokes weren't what made the show funny. It was clever writing, which is lacking in the sitcoms of today.

Yeah, those are good shows! I don't know if you all are simple-minded, but shows today are really good. JMO

Today's shows are nothing compared to the 50s-80s. The shows started getting really bad in the early-mid 90's. It seems nearly 2/3's of the new shows today get canceled. The ratings for a show are no where near of what they are before. The quality of the shows are bad. As Adam West says, "Thank god for TV Land."
The Cosby Show on Nick at Nite is beating most network shows on The WB, UPN and sometimes FOX at 9pm.
