Great list. Animated sitcoms like The Simpsons wouldn't have counted?

I'm not a huge fan of the show but I do enjoy it when I watch it. It's cleverly written and acted.

I have now edited my original post to include my top 10.

I tend to make my A-Z list a little differently. What I do is try and pick my top 5 for each letter, except for M which would have 10, since there are many great M shows so you need more than 5. A few letters might have less than 5 due to a lack of worthy candidates, but in the end I still end up with around 100. My current group will look like this, ordered by preference:

A

1. The Andy Griffith Show
2. ALF
3. The Addams Family
4. The Adventures Of Ozzie & Harriet
5. All In The Family

B

1. The Brady Bunch
2. Bewitched
3. The Beverly Hillbillies
4. The Big Bang Theory
5. The Bob Newhart Show

C

1. The Cosby Show
2. Cheers
3. Coach
4. Car 54, Where Are You?
5. Chico & The Man

D

1. The Dick Van Dyke Show
2. The Donna Reed Show
3. Dobie Gillis
4. Dennis The Menace
5. Diff'rent Strokes

E

1. Everybody Loves Raymond
2. 8 Simple Rules
3. Empty Nest
4. Eight Is Enough

F

1. Friends
2. Frasier
3. Family Ties
4. Family Affair
5. The Flintstones

G

1. Gilligan's Island
2. Green Acres
3. Get Smart
4. The Golden Girls
5. Gomer Pyle USMC

H

1. Happy Days
2. The Honeymooners
3. Here's Lucy
4. Hogan's Heroes
5. How I Met Your Mother

I

1. I Dream Of Jeannie
2. I Love Lucy

J

1. The Jack Benny Program
2. The Jeffersons
3. Julia
4. Just The Ten Of Us
5. Joanie Loves Chachi

K

1. King Of Kensington
2. Kate and Allie

L

1. Leave It To Beaver
2. Laverne & Shirley
3. Love American Style
4. The Lucy Show
5. The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour

M

1. The Monkees
2. Mork & Mindy
3. My Three Sons
4. The Munsters
5. The Mary Tyler Moore Show
6. Married With Children
7. Mad About You
8. Make Room For Daddy
9. Malcolm In The Middle
10. The Middle

N

1. Night Court
2. Newhart
3. The New Leave It To Beaver
4. The New Gidget

O

1. The Odd Couple
2. One Day At A Time
3. Our Miss Brooks

P

1. The Partridge Family
2. The Phil Silvers Show
3. Petticoat Junction
4. Punky Brewster
5. Phyllis

R

1. Room 222
2. The Ropers
3. Rhoda
4. The Real McCoys
5. Roseanne

S

1. Scrubs
2. Soap
3. Sabrina The Teenage Witch
4. The Simpsons
5. Sanford & Son

T

1. Three's Company
2. Two & A Half Men
3. That Girl
4. Taxi
5. 3rd Rock From The Sun

W

1. Welcome Back Kotter
2. WKRP In Cincinnati
3. Will & Grace
4. Wings
5. Webster

By my total, that comes out to 95 shows, so to get to 100, here are 5 more that just missed the cut but which I also like:

Alice
Barney Miller
MASH
That 70s Show
Two Broke Girls

I've noticed a common theme here which I discovered from looking at the last 3 lists and which would become part of my list if I ever try to arrange my picks in chronological order. Once you get to the mid-1990s and beyond the choices tend to thin out considerably. That means that about roughly 70-80% of our favourite sitcoms of all time are at least 20-25 years old. That should be a clear message to the 4 major networks (and certain cable and digital channels as well) that something is wrong with their present setup and needs to be changed immediately but I'm not confident that will change fairly soon.

I love to see all you guys's Top 100 sitcoms.

To those who picked "Designing Women" and "Golden Girls"--I do like them but they aren't in my Top 5.

I've been meaning to update my list. There are several shows on it that I don't much care for anymore or other shows now outrank them.
