Donald Sinden,one of the last of the old school of great British actors has died from prostate cancer aged 90. One of those quintessential English gentlemen from the Home Counties, he was comfortable with both tragic and comedic roles, playing Shakespeare's King Lear and Malvolio with equal aplomb, having learned his craft in the days of repertory theatre where he always felt more at ease than his later television sitcoms,an avenue not always open to the young actors of today. He was often pilloried unfairly for his grandiliquence and grandiosity,one example of which I post in the parodical sketch below,but the truth was he was a generous family man who could hold his own with any of his contemporaries faced with a more sceptical age, which has engulfed many of us in our chosen careers.http://youtu.be/37dklS3I7jM
