Default Best Feuds In Daytime

What were some of the best feuds in daytime soaps? For starters, I remember that Colleen Zenk and Hillary Bailey Smith hated each other on "As The World Turns". Fortunately, their characters (Barbara and Margo) hated each other as well, so it brought a fascinating dynamic to their scenes.

I'll start with some on-screen ones:

Obviously, B&B's Stephanie and Brooke were always feuding and at times that made for awesome TV.

on AMC, who could forget Brooke and Erica's infamous rivalry? Erica once said to Brooke "if my marriages never ended, yours would never begin."

On OLTL, there was Dorian and Viki's decades long rivalry.

On AMC, Tad and Adam had an on-going feud.

on Y&R, Victor and Jack, those two always go at it! Not to mention, Sharon and Phyllis, who were obviously rivals for a long-time. Also, Phyllis and Dru were rivals.

now for a few off-screen feuds:

----I've always heard that AMC's Susan Lucci and Sarah Michelle Gellar hated each others guts... We've never had much proof other than speculation. I know I've heard similar issues arose on the Buffy set with SMG's co-stars as well, and I've only ever heard people say nice things about Lucci.

-----I've also heard rumors that on AMC, Keith Hamilton Cobb and Sydney Penny hated each other and that filming the Noah/Julia romance was anything but fun for them. I've mostly heard that Penny was a spoiled diva who was mean to Cobb and that she allegedly requested the writers break them up.

------Back in the golden days of soaps it was a rather well known fact that soap opera creator/producer/writer Irna Phillips was not very kind to actors, and often refereed to actors by their characters names. Rosemary Prinz has stated on-record that Phillips was a cruel, vindictive woman.

-------On OLTL, Ellen Holly who played Carla Grey/Hall has gone on-record saying that she was not treated well and was in fact the victim of racist taunts and mistreatment by management and producers at ABC and OLTL. Among the allegations she made against them were that she was forced to sign a contract that allowed for no raises and did not allow her to have an agent or lawyer look it over, that she was often verbally scolded by Paul Rauch and that she and Lillian Hayman who played Sadie, Carla's mother were fired without merit and then subsequently erased from OLTL history after enduring years of verbal abuse from the producers of OLTL.

--------I've heard a number of people had issues with Paul Rauch over the years, especially at OLTL.

------On OLTL, I've heard Jacqueline Courtney and George Reinholt had big issues with each other, and despised working with one another. Courtney in particular seemed to have issues with many co-stars.

-----I have no confirmation on this, other than my own speculation, but I get the impression that when Kim Zimmer was on OLTL in 1983, that she and Robin Strasser never liked each other.

-------I think by now its well established that Victoria Rowell and Michelle Stafford of Y&R cannot stand each other. Just look up Victoria Rowell's now infamous rants about "spit-gate" and you'll see.

Hunter Tylo (B&B) and Kimberlin Brown (formerly of Y&R) used to be very close but no longer speak after Kimberlin and her husband took Hunter's now ex-husband Michael's side while they were going through personal issues. Hunter also made headlines when she sued Aaron Spelling and the producers of Melrose Place, accusing them of discrimination after they fired her because she was pregnant. She was awarded almost 5 million dollars.

Eric Braden and Peter Bergman famously came to blows on the Y&R set.

DAYS has two big on-screen feuds in Marlena/Kristen and Sami/Kate.

Wasn't there a big rift on ATWT after Austin Peck broke up up Terri Colombino's marriage? Supposedly everybody liked Terri's husband, and most of the cast (especially Michael Park) blamed Austin.

Yes, it was a pretty big scandal at the time, it caused a pretty big rift on the set and a lot of tension.

From "DOOL":

I recall that Robert Kelker-Kelly was very unpopular with his co-stars on the show and that he especially did not get along with Kristian Alfonso and Lisa Rinna. Even though fans enjoyed his portrayal of Bo Brady, he was not popular with his co-stars.

I don't know the particulars, but from what I gather there were allegations of improper behavior made against RKK. I think Crystal Chappell and Michael Sabition also disliked him. At least these are rumors I've heard.

Which on a related note, reminds me, I've heard rumors that Lisa Rinna and Kristian Alfonso also did not get along AT ALL.

On "Y&R":

The Y&R set has been known for having pretty big feuds between co-stars, the most recent one was Hunter Haley King making some accusations of inappropriate behavior against Michael Muhney which got him fired.

I believe (and could be wrong) that there was also a time when some co-stars were unhappy with Melody Thomas Scott, because they felt she was getting preferential from Producer Ed Scott, who is also her husband.

Robert Kelker-Kelly made headlines when he married the actress who played Sami's friend Jamie. I think her name is Miriam Parrish and she was 17 when they met; they married right after her 18th birthday so he wouldn't get busted for statutory rape. RKK was accused of sexual harassment on set and Alison Sweeney's mom apparently made sure her daughter shared no alone time with him.

A lot of Matthew Ashford fans believe DAYS executive producer Ken Corday hates him and that's why he was constantly fired and brought back with terrible writing for his character.

I have also read that he was rumored to have acted aggressively during love scenes, to the point of making some co-stars uncomfortable. I've read that Lisa Rinna and Kristian Alfonso who didn't get along put their differences aside and basically forced the show to fire him... Of course, I have no real proof, just rumors I've heard.

One of the nastier feuds on Daytime is from AMC and happened when Eva La Rue and John Callahan decided to get a divorce. Not only did the tension from their divorce make it onto the set, it made it onto the page as well, because writers also had Maria and Edmund divorce at the same time.

It got really tense and awkward and nasty messages were sent between the two on their personal websites at the time, and it was a pretty sensational story for the soap gossip pages at the time.

I'd forgotten about that pair. I do remember watching them at the time as their marriage broke up IRL.

Palmer Cortlandt and Adam Chandler (AMC) had a nice rivalry going, too, didn't they?

Didn't Adam also resent Tad Martin due to Tad's involvement with Dixie?

This is going back years, but didn't Iris and Rachel from Another World have an ongoing feud?

I meant REAL-LIFE feuds between the actors, not the characters.

Kim Zimmer didn't get along with Cynthia Watros.

Beth Ehlers slept with all of her male costars according to Kim Zimmer.

Kristian Alfonso and Crystal Chapell may be the worst feud of all. CC wrote a book about their infighting.
