I've overdrafted in my banking account!
I now have a negative number in my account and I now have to pay an overdraft fee!
I also have to go to school, pay my bills, and pay my rent! Looks like I'm on skid row! |

If you've never over-drafted before, you might be able to call your bank and see if they'll waive it. I bank with PNC and was able to do this.
If your account has a negative balance but doesn't show the over-draft fee then you may have time to deposit the amount that caused you to go over but you would have to be at the bank as soon as they opened. If it does show the fee then you should still call or better yet stop by and talk with someone. |

You might want to also ask if they an account for overdraft protection, I work at HSBC and they have an overdraft protection but you need a checking account to have it linked to.
The way it works is almost like a credit card, the moment your checking acct is overdrawn let's say for an example because a check is being cashed then funds from your OD acct would transfer automatically to cover the OD. Normally you would be charged OD fee of $35 but having OD protection would only charge $10 and your checks would still be paid. |

I hate being in overdraft. My bank at one time was of the policy that if you were even if you overdrafted by a penny, you'd still be charged $22 then, simply because you were over.
But my bank has the policy now of waiving the fee if you can put back in the funds in a timely manner. Two years ago, I found I was in overdraft by $350 after someone stole my checks!! The bank waived the fees and replaced my funds, urging me to close my current account and open a new one. So I was okay.

I have a line of credit at my bank that covers any overdrafts in my account.
