(The Kramdens and Nortons are on the Riverboat ship dock.)
Ralph: "First time I am spending Labor Day in a foreign country." Ed: "Oh yes. I asked a Frenchman in French: 'What are you going to do for Labor Day?' He had no idea what I meant." (Ralph rolls his eyes.) Ralph: "Norton, Labor Day is an AMERICAN holiday." Ed: "Oh." Ralph: "It's a day for us to celebrate our labor. After all, I work hard driving a bus." Ed (yells): "AND I WORK HARD SWIMMING IN THE SEWERS WORKING." Ralph (yells): "WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH YOU?" Ed (yells): "I'M SORRY. I JUST WANTED PEOPLE TO KNOW HOW PROUD I AM TO BE A SEWERWORKER." (Ralph elbows Ed.) Ralph: "Well, we can be proud that we are Americans and we are visiting the fine country of France. What a way to celebrate our Labor Day. What a way to celebrate the fruits of our labor." Ed: "What fruits?" (Ralph rolls his eyes.) Ralph: "I meant celebrating the benefits of our labor." Ed: "Why didn't you say so?" (Ralph rolls his eyes again.) Ed: "Yes, we are grateful that we have Labor Day in our country. Each worker around this world should celebrate their labor." Ralph: "You are right pal." (The sing a song about working.) (Jackie Gleason walks on stage. Crowd applauds.) Jackie: "Thank you. GOOD NIGHT!" (Crowd cheers.) |
