Whatever happened to deputy attorney Richard Garrett?

Richard Garrett, the deputy attorney who was working on the Don Henry and Kevin Ives case. The only thing I found out is that a few years later he was indicted on drug charges on a semi-related case, but later cleared? I don't know about the details. Maybe someone can help me. I was just wondering if he was still in law enforcement or if he had passed.

I remember in the Henry and Ives segment he mentioned that he had never carried a gun before in his life, but since working on that case he had carried a gun because he feels like his life may be in danger at some point in time.

The Ives/Henry case is far more convoluted than one might ever imagine. The segment really only scratches the surface, and I think that's probably putting it lightly. I'm not sure if Garrett started out clean and later fell under the influence of (Saline Co Prosecutor) Dan Harmon, or if he was bad seed from the beginning, but personally I'm inclined to think it's probably the former.

Garrett, along with Dan Harmon and a number of other Saline County officials, were nearly indicted on federal drug charges stemming from an investigation of trafficking activities linked to the Mena, AR airport--one of which was the death of Don Henry and Kevin Ives. After a state deputy prosecutor brought in to head the investigation presented the findings of her investigation to U.S. Attorney Chuck Banks, he ordered the investigation closed and then came out with a statement that no Saline County official scrutinized during the investigation would be brought up on any charges related to that investigation. And that was that.

Dan Harmon, however, was convicted in 1997 of extortion, racketeering, and drug conspiracy in an unrelated case. He was also convicted about four years ago of selling prescription painkillers--and near a school, no less.

Anyhow, Garrett is living in Traskwood, Arkansas and his license to practice law is current.

Thanks for the information. Strange, Richard Garrett really seemed to be involed in the case at the time. I remember that there was a special segment on Unsolved Mysteries where Garrett actually spoke to Robert Stack on air giving his opinion on the case, assuming it was drug related.
