Post do you know anybody that went "tv free" ?

Maybe its the "in" thing nowadays but more and more people I have met have gone or are going "Tv Free". As in not owning or watching tv ( and radio too for that matter ).

I heard many reasons why people are doing this. everything from tv being too dirty to lack of eduacational programs. To me all of this is strange in this day and age of digital cable and satellite with TLC, the Discovery channels, A&E, even TBN and Trinity. Even the regular NETS aren't all that bad, also what about PBS?

I even read where many movie& tv stars have gone down this route as well. For example both Bette Milder and Lisa Kudrow (Friends- I know I mispelled her last name ) not only do they NOT allow their kids to watch any tv
( even their own shows ) but from what I heard neither owns a set. Madonna I heard bars her kids from listening to music( even her stuff ) as well as watching any tv. All of them feels that tv & radio makes people more..well stupid.

Do you anybody who has went "tv free"?

Cool

i have no problem with people who decide to go TV free, just the ones who think everyone else should give up TV too.

I could never, never, never, never do that.

And TV doesn't make one stupid if they watch decent stuff. I grew up on TV and graduated 13th in my class of 395.

I think the main reason stars don't own or watch tv is because they have little free time to do so.

My sister is married with two kids and they don't own a TV. She says there is too much junk on. She hasn't lived in a house with a TV in it since 1990 when she moved out of my parents house.

Years ago ( around 1980 )I remember watching I think on the old Merv show Michael Landon saying that the ONLY show his kids were allowed to watch was Little House and if his kids dared to watch anything else they would be beaten. Neither Merv Griffin or Sarah Purcell ( who was on the same show ) questioned why he said that, Landon never did give a reason why to his opinion. Wonder if he ever beat his kids if they came across Bonanza reruns?

It is true that Bette Midler does not allow her child to watch tv ( unless she changed it recently ) but she also doesnt allow her child to go to any home that has a tv set.
Makes me wonder if her, Madonna, and the many others who dont allow their kids to watch tv or listen to radio , if they are trying to hide the real world to their kids. If so then thats not a good thing. Wonder if Bette's daughter even knows what happened on 9/11 or was she too busy taking French lessons or whatever? Sad!!

As far as music goes if Madonna doesnt want her kids to be exposed to popular music ( even her own hits ) then why dont she go classical herself? At least Linda Ronstadt
when she herself became disgusted with pop music she herself started singing standards.
Guess its the money!!!

It is interesting though, the people I met who were the most anti-tv and/or anti-radio were people who worked in that business. WE had a guy in my hometown who did the local radio morning show for 40 years and when he retired he admitted ( to my surprised ) he didnt even owned a radio, doesnt even have one in his car !!! Plus years ago I had a friend whose dad would not allow him to watch tv. He wasnt even allowed at my house because we had television. All the time he would slam tv saying that it ruins the kids and makes adults "********" and such. Where did he work at? The NBC tv station in Washington DC !!!

If I would ever get to the point that I start slamming my place of employment then I would quit. Again I guess its money. This man did own 3 homes- NBC paid him well despite opinions.
