Why does your school start so early? It's still summer! Here in Michigan it's the law now that school can't start until after Labor Day. That's how it used to be. Then for some reason school started before Labor Day. After reams of complaints by parents it was switched back to after Labor Day. I imagine it was pushed through because of our tourist industry which wanted the tourist season longer. But August 11th? We never started as early as that! Usually it was the week before Labor Day.
Anyway, I hope your 8th grade experience will be a pleasant one!

Oh No

Hmm...I started school on the week before Labor Day.

I miss the summers that I had in the past...this year I didn't do much with anyone. I was hoping for The Summer I'll Never Forget, but I'll just say the Cleveland Motto "There's Always Next Year"!

In Ohio, school used to start after Labor Day. It now starts the last week of August.

Good luck in 8th grade. I remember 8th grade. So long ago, 1993-1994. lol.

School always starts in August here. It used to be early August until a few years ago when they said that students couldn't start back before the third Monday in August. Also, there's a rule that you have to 5 by Sept. 1st to start Kindergarten or they make you wait a year.

My nieces and nephew started back to school last Monday, August 4th. They are in Tennessee. My nephew in Florida has a week left before he starts back to school. Hard to believe they're all in high school except for the youngest who is in 5th grade.

Have fun in 8th grade! It's crazy to think that I was getting ready to start 8th grade...15 years ago. I always dreaded the "back to school" feeling, but I guess enjoy it while you can, because it goes by quickly!

I was going to ask the same question Penny Lane did, "Why does school start so early?"

I'm guessing it only starts early for those who live in the warm weather climate states.

I was in 8th grade back in 1995. I used to hate the first day of school. I used to get sick, obviously being nervous

I also live in Tennessee and the kids went back to school on August 6th in our county. Here's part of an article that gives the reason for starting so early. http://www.topix.com/forum/city/morr...AOVHQPFMKAVG11

Another problem that I see with this(especially in Michigan) our schools are not air conditioned. Usually August is very hot. Are your schools air conditioned in the south ?

^ The newer schools in our county have it, but not all the school buses have air-conditioning.
