Question Diane or Rebecca years

Which years do you like better (i think this was on before but im ganna put it on agian). I personally like the Rebecca years more. I although I also really enjoy Diane episodes I find Rebeccas funnier and more entertainig. I think the Rebecca years is when cheers hit its peak. I also enjoy Kirstie Alley much more than Shelley Long (sorry shelley fans lol)

hey, thats allright i am sure that it doesn,t matter at all,i mean now the new people on this board have some other poll which is good,i would have to say that i am the oppisite,in my opninon i like the diane years more, but don,t get me wrong i really enjoyed the early rebbeca years and i very very much enjoy watching kirste alley, allthough i did very much miss shelley long alot when she did decide to leave the show, but i did very much both rebbeca and diane and their characters, but i liked dianes alittle more i think, but i did like rebecca, but it is not really anything to do with her that i don,t really like the rebbeca years that much,at least not the majority of them,i think that all the diane years had sophistcated and sharper writing, and it was also very very very funny, but i guess i am very much am into the idea that it had alot of heart especially in the early years, but it was never over the top of being sappy, but it was genuinelly real and sad and at many times quit deep, but it was still very good for being a comedy and it had this warm appnosphere that was very nice and this very touching feeling that was nice to,but i also very much like the character from that time period, they were all these very genuinelly friendly, real, interesting, fun, cool and likeable people in those years, not that it lost somewhere all of that warmth when kirstie alley aka rebbeca arrived cheers was still a very nice and likeable bar,but when diane left ahcually before that sometime during the show cheers it did,but it lost some of that charisma and magic that they never got back, and it lost that veyr friendly appnosphere and the characters just seemed to lose some of that real and likeable and interesting part of them, but i think that when woody came on it didn,t make as big a differance as it did with rebbeca, maybe due in part to the fact that he was replacing coach a supporting but inportent character and since the actor nicholes colosanto died and did not decide to leave and that woody was a more shall i say hmmmmmmmmmmm shall i say underappeacated not the word i was looking for quit but diane was a major character and she and sam kind of represented cheers more then the others, don,t get me wrong you need the whole gang to make cheers, but i guess sometime when kirstie alley came the characters started changing and the acual writing wasne,t nearly as good or sharp i think, and the characters changed, but they were still themselves but they had changed, but the character who had changed the most was sam,but i still achually think that the rebbeca years were achually funnier i will have to add that and some of the shows were very hilorous, but i honestlly kind of hated what they did to sams character, allthough i realize that it was a new concept, not as much at first, but he kind of became a more vague and uninteresting character eventually and he lost some of the magic and charasma and the smarts that he had before,i guess that they had to make it so it would work in with the situation, but i still think he could have been true to his old self they could have made him more likeable, but i achually thought they made carla a nicer person which was nice and i achually really did like the replacemen for diane rebbeca in the early years she was a very good character i thought in the very begining she was cool, siren, calm, sophistcated and she had a certin mystery about her that was nice,i thought it was good edtion, but i wish she would have stayed like that, but i still do enjoy watching the rebbeca years though and they are way way way better than alot of tv shows on today, but i am very much a big fan of the diane years though,i personally think that the first 3-4 years were the best, this is just my personal thoughts and ideas, but i still enjoy the rebbeca ones, but i am really a big sam and diane fan,I AM IN LOVE WITH THE DIANE YEARS,thanks LOL

Cool

I prefer the Rebecca years. I'm probably in the minority in this group (heck I'm in the minority in almost anything ), but I never found Diane funny.

yes i agree sammyanddiane... when diane was there, there was so much more chemistry between sam and diane.. and the writing was excellent, the rebecca years were good.. but something was missing from it.. and i guess sam hitting on rebecca was kinda recycled due to the fact that it was kind of like diane blowing sam off all the time, but they were both good.. but diane.. lol

I agree with you Wingsfan, I prefer the Rebecca years too, I'm not a Diane fan. Your right, we are the minority.

SHOCK! I voted for the Diane years, of course. I know, you are probably all pinching yourselves. LOL I have to admit, I was strangely surprised by the Kirstie eps when I first saw them. I cannot express the disgust I felt when Shelley left. I despised Kirstie. Later, I watched the Rebecca eps, and I found them hilarious and enjoyable. But, I will always stick by Shelley's side! LOL Good poll, btw.

hmm comparing the show to pop princesses who *some* of us actually like...

but anyways i like the rebecca years, even though i didn't see as many ep.'s with rebecca as i did with diane...i think diane took over the world at one point in the 80's or something.

Cool

Having been too young to see most of Shelley Long's episodes first time round, I've now seen enough of them to prefer those to the Kirstie Alley years. Not that I disliked the KA episodes though....did we really aspire to hair that big?

YEAH I KNOW,i remember very little from that time period but the hair DOES STAND OUT AS BEING PRETTY BAD,I don,t know if i really like the late 80s that much, but i do like the early to mid eightes alot till 86 or 87,hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm i do wonder if it was cheers that got me fancinated with the 80s,i know that it,s off topic, but i just had say i agree with ya on that point about the hair, but i also agree with ya that even though i was upset with shelley long leaving and getting a replacement for diane,I REALLY HONESTLY LIKE THE REBBECA ONES TO AND I DO AGREE THAT KIRSTIE WAS A GREAT CHOICE TO REPLACE SHELLEY LONG after she left cheers the show,So yeah KIRSTIE ALLEY AND SHELLEY LONG BOTH ROCK,thanks lol
