I am a casual fan of the show Seinfeld. My first question might be, why was the show named Seinfeld? Before the show, Jerry Seinfeld was an up and coming star, but not that well known in the United States. I have seen him IMDB. Not much there. He was more or less discovered in his own show.
I opine that Jason Alexander was the true star of the show. He was sort of the Barney Fife to Seinfeld's Andy. To me, he had the most hilarious bits, with Seinfeld sort of the voice of reason. Seinfeld although he had some great lines, was the straight man to the other three players. I wish Jason could have another series or be a regular part of another series because he was hilarious. Like I said, I am a casual fan of the show, but Jason was boss. Michael Richards' Kramer was supposed to be the ridiculous one, not so. I guess there is not a point, except why wasn't this show called "Alexander", since he was the best player and Jerry wasn't that famous before. That is my point. |

I can just see it now.
Larry David: Hey Jerry, let's create a show for you starring a fictionalized version of yourself but we'll call it "Alexander" because George Costanza will have most of the funnier lines and you'll be more of a straight man to him and the others.
Jerry Seinfeld: Let me see if I understand this, you want us to create a show based on me but we'll give top billing to Jason Alexander because George will have most of the funnier lines? Larry David: That's correct. Jerry Seinfeld: You're fired! |

Jerry was the central character and played straight man to all the "crazies" around him. Just like Bob Newhart did on "The Bob Newhart Show" and "Newhart".

Jason is hilarious as George but I think it worked better b/c it was centered around Jerry who was a comedian.
