Escape Acquires Unsolved Mysteries (Dennis Farina Episodes)

Escape, the nation's first-ever over-the-air broadcast television network for women, has acquired the rights to 538 episodes of three popular true crime series in three individual licensing agreements: Snapped (150 episodes) from NBCUniversal Television & New Media Distribution, U.S. & Canada; Unsolved Mysteries (175 episodes) hosted by Dennis Farina from Cosgrove/Meurer Productions; Forensic Files (213 episodes) from Trifecta Entertainment & Media. Escape will target women 25-54 with a mix of off-net series and theatrical motion pictures which will emphasize heroines and heroes that slip away from pursuit or peril. The network, set to launch later this summer, is part of Katz Broadcasting, a new company established by current Bounce TV founder/COO and former Turner Broadcasting executive Jonathan Katz, who serves as President and CEO. Escape's brother-network Grit will be the first-ever over-the-air broadcast television network for men and will also launch later this summer. Escape and Grit are both currently cleared to be seen in 50% of the country, with more distribution to be announced shortly. The networks will be seen in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, Washington, D.C., Cleveland, Houston, Miami, San Francisco and other major markets.

Maybe...just maybe...Grit will air the RS version of "Unsolved Mysteries"!

And I thought Lifetime and Spike were the first networks for women and men, respectively. Both have aired Unsolved Mysteries.

Be interesting if they get some different Forensic Files episodes though.

I watched it last night. The show appears to be on Monday-Saturday, once in the morning and once in the evening on Escape.

This is awesome, and hopefully it will get more people interested in the show.

Good news for the show. I'm thoroughly confused as to why the Robert Stack episodes aren't being featured anywhere. In Search of featuring Leonard Nimoy got re-released in the late 90's, long after the sourced information was outdated and proven wrong.

My only guess would be is that Law and Order is shown on reruns on syndicated cable and the episodes featuring Farina are mainly shown.

My best guess is that they spent a lot of time and money to "modernize" the episodes and they want to get as much mileage out of them as possible.

If that is true, it doesn't bode well for the Stack episodes.

That was re-tweeted by the official UM Twitter page. Original seems to suggest "Stack-Era", and the fact they retweeted it made it seem like they agreed with him. Why do we always get the Spike versions then? Contract issues?

Or maybe they are selling off the Farina episodes cheaper than the Stack episodes, hence why a network would settle for the Farina ones. Same show, cheaper price tag (although to all of us UM fans it's NOT the same show).

I guess that could be possible, given the smaller episode count. I'm pretty sure viewing figures would increase if they did show Stack UM, even if it was just the first season or so. Doesn't seem to matter most of these networks though as the Spike version is pretty much just a place holder show for whenever they need an hour or two to fill their schedules.
