Default Dungeons & Dragons-esque case?

I vaguely remember a rather interesting case. I believe it had to do with a murder (or murders) of people connected to fantasy role-playing games or something, which people I think believed were related to the occult? The specific case I remember was a young man who if I'm not mistaken, was found dead...I think it was by the cliffs of a seashore? I swear it was a case on the show but I cannot for the life of me think of the man's name.

Does anyone know?

Kurt McFall. His case is much discussed on the forums and can be found by searching his name. Last I checked forum is pretty much split as to whether or not McFall's death was an accident or homicide. There is also some debate as to whether or not there actually any occult overtones in this case to speak of or not.

That WAS actually the game Robinson and Johnston were playing that night, wasn't it?

I do remember reading an article about Kurt McFall playing the game as well, but I think the focus in that segment was more on his involvement in the SCA and Gabriel Carillo's wiccan circle.

I remember some posters including myself thought the man Kurt was staying with might of been closeted gay man that might of put on some advancing moves on Kurt because of sexual attraction. Kurt might of said something or did something to make this older gentlemen enraged.

Or, you know, the exact opposite of that could have happened.

It could be the couple that were involved in an affair, or it could be the teenage who "fell" off the cliff by your description.

You never know, besides that man was a bit to old to be hanging out with a younger man like Kurt.

For whatever it is worth, the I'm pretty sure that the "Carodoc" mentor to Kurt McFall was gay, as he passed away a few years ago, and the obituary mentioned a life partner.

Regarding the relationship questions between Kurt and Gabriel:

Gabriel Carillo's obituary names his male partner so he was definitely gay. Whether that had anything to do with his relationship with Kurt, I don't know.

The obituary does say that he had various interests and different careers, which included "students" (of what, I don't know), but even if he was a teacher/mentor/instructor of some kind, I still find it strange, and not so very innocent, that a man in his 30s (?) was having a teenage boy at his house for sleepovers.

I found an article online a few years ago that detailed in depth the specific faith practiced and instructed by Carillo. The article also mentioned that Carillo's ethics were questionable as he was known to engage in sexual practices with his students.

I have to say that as soon as I read that my thoughts instantly shifted to the friend interviewed in silhouette during the McFall segment and his comments about Kurt discovering something troubling within the organization.

While I still subscribe to the accident theory in this case, I will say that if there was a scenario in which murder was the outcome, I could possibly see this is as being a probable motivation/reason.
