"The Mindy Project" Season 3: "Cheers" Vet Rhea Perlman to Play Danny's Mother

Three "Cheers" for this casting.

"The Mindy Project" has tapped four-time Emmy winner Rhea Perlman to join the Season 3 cast in the recurring role of Annette Castellano, Danny’s (Chris Messina) mother, TVLine has learned exclusively.

The show’s star and EP. Mindy Kaling, teased the character’s arrival earlier this week at the Television Critics Assoc. summer press tour.

“The wonderful thing about the character is the trope of the mother-in-law-type figure who doesn’t like the girl is so pervasive, it’s like, ‘OK, how do we do a new spin on this?’” she told reporters, adding that Mama C will clash with Mindy and Danny.

“As Danny has said, ‘I don’t know how to please that woman.’ So we haven’t ignored her own relationship with her two sons and her ex-husband. So we really explore a lot. The third episode is called ‘Annette Castellano Is My Nemesis, so we really hit it dead-on.”

"The Mindy Project" kicks off its third season on Sept. 16.

Can she befriend Beth Grant's role?

She did okay in the previous episode, will she ever appear again?

The reason why is because her role attracted Beverly's attention in a respectful way and Beverly is interested in Rhea's role more.
