Thumbs up "Medical Detectives" now on ID channel...

Just noticed that they're running a marathon of "Medical Detectives" shows this afternoon on the ID channel. For those of you that don't know its the name Forensic Files used to go by. I didn't notice any other recent episodes airing past today so not sure how much they'll air it but maybe they'll show some of the old episodes since the HLN channel seems to keep airing the same ones over and over.

They're supposed to be airing more in the fall, I think today might just be a trial run. They're also airing on Discovery Fit and Health Mon-Thurs lately. This week they're showing a few that haven't been aired in quite a while.

CNN has also been airing several episodes in the middle of the night. They seem to do a better job of mixing up the episodes than HLN.

I do like HLN somewhat, but they could benefit greatly from mixing up their programming. Same people, same shows day in, day out. I do like Jane Velez-Mitchell.

I testify to Discovery F&H showing a really nice variety lately as well. Didn't know about CNN, though--will have to DVR.

I like that HLN shows a LOT of FF, but that's my only real reason for watching it. Jane Velez-Mitchell is about the only individual I think I can tolerate on that channel, although I have been warming up to Robin Meade lately which I thought would never happen.

Nancy Grace is a forever "NO", though.

Hi, thanks for the message about the shows being on ID channel. I love ID channel :P

I started watching season 1 of Forensic Files/Mystery Detectives two nights ago online. There were like maybe 2 shows from seasons 1 and 2 that I still see re-run on CNN and HLN. Otherwise most of Season 1 and 2 are never on CNN and HLN!!! (I don't know about season 3 and 4). Does anyone know why? You would think since all they air is reruns to start airing all of them because some of them are new to me since I didn't watch the first couple seasons of FF when it debuted.

It comes down mostly to licensing issues. The show's been on several networks since 1996 and when reruns are aired on another network only a certain number are sold and then aired, and only then for a certain amount of time. When they began airing on HLN a couple of years ago only 100 were sold, and only some of those were aired repeatedly before the rest were. When it moved to truTV from TLC they owned the rights for any new episodes as well as the name and truTV held onto all of that until the contract between the show's producers and truTV expired. It took 3 years for the contract to expire (where no new episodes were made after 2011) and the show's syndication rights were up for grabs.

While the DVD sets of every season are a nice gesture, there's still several old episodes that haven't been aired in the past several years on any network (at least here in the US) and I hope that this fall all 400 will air. I wish they'd quit f'ing around and put all episodes out somehow, because there's money to be made.

Can someone please post when they find out exactly when Medical Detectives will be airing on ID this Fall so I don't miss it.

Almost as soon as I said that, Jane Velez-Mitchell has been cancelled due to budget cuts at CNN. Hopefully, she can find a good new job.
