Mississippi to Chicago.
Which means she never lived in NY and basically confirms that Good Times is not a spinoff. So basically she only lived in Mississippi and Illinios NOT New York The End

I know that this is a curve ball folks but I AGREE WITH SOLOMON! After thinking about it, he is right. I provided proof that the show is a spinoff and argued that consistency can change and he playfully ignores the proof although part of the proof came from the developer himself. So, how do I agree with Solomon, you ask? I agreed when he said it was the end...it has been the end ever since I shut it down. It was also the end back in 2006 when the proof was given as well. So yes, Sol. I agree that it is the end....long before this topic was even resurrected again. LOL.

And that is your argument? LOL. Even after it was said repeatedly that writing and background can be adjusting to fulfill a certain vision for a show? Back to the drawing board, my friend.

Clearly, Maude is a spinoff from All in the Family because "Cousin Maude" came to visit the Bunkers on All in the Family twice and the Bunkers went upstate to visit Maude on "Maude" for her daughter Carol's wedding. Also, it is very clear that The Jeffersons is a spinoff from All in the Family as well. That's because The Jeffersons were the Bunkers neighbors in Queens for a long time before they moved to Manhattan and got their own show. Also, once they had their own show, the Bunkers were mentioned several times in a few of the episodes. In Good Times, there is no mention of Maude. There is no mention of New York and there is no mention of how "Henry" a former fireman changed his name to James.

Very well spoken point of view, Wawwie. Well thought out and executed. It was specific and to the point. It was an excellent opinion of yours....however it is still a spinoff with documented proof to back it up. Plus, even if one did not have documented proof, one can still tell. Maude was definitely a catalyst for "Good Times". If we allow ourselves to only focus on logistic accuracy, then we put ourselves in a trap regarding what qualifies for a spinoff. People are allowed to have their own opinions, though and I respect that.

Your response to the opinion above yours reminds me very much of how I, myself respond to opinions differing from mine. I compliment the person on how well thought out his/her viewpoint is; compliment them on the fluidness and execution of the facts presented as they see them, as I tell them that I respect their opinion and then point out that they are DEAD WRONG. |

I'd say technically it was a spin off , but on the other hand it wasn't a spin off !
Now hear me out please! It was a spin off because it took a character off of a show and gave the character her own show. But than this character had no ties to her old show what so ever. They put her in a whole different city, gave her husband a different name. She became a housewife and not a housekeeper. The only thing they kept was her name Florida. So that is the on the other hand that it really wasn't a spin off. This was a first time thing I'm thinking? Never before was a character taken off a show, and kept the same name but really was a whole new person! It's cool ! If they had kept Florida as the same woman who worked for Maude and kept her in NY and James was still a fireman named Henry it wouldn't have been the same show. If he was a fireman , that is a good job. And she was a housekeeper they wouldn't be as poor and in the projects as they were in Chicago. Bottom line it was technically a spin off but realistically not a spin off. It was a first! I'm glad they kept her name as Florida though. That is a cool, original name!!! |
